....ps I have just looked at both blog posts for the vci400 EG edition and done a search on the page for both "99" & "upgrade" and can't see any posts from Ean.

99$ for the FW! Seriously!? A bit steep do you not believe!

fair enough.

I guess I was just getting tripped up in the idea of using such an expensive and specialized controller with an intro level software. My thought was that if you're opting for this gear , you likely have all your software sorted. But I get it now

Has there been any word on whether djranking s are going to release this FW or not? I do understand they obviously want to sell their device but its just not feasible for people outside the US to order one.

I've noticed people talking about a charge for it but I've not seen any sources of information quoted.

Anyone in the know out there?

Cheers

Yes I would love the EG edition, but I would also like to try VDJ because when I mix reggae, I prefer the effects on VDJ. I also wouldn't mind the abletom mapping so to have a controller just geared to one software base is not really my style.

I would most likely be switiching between firmwares depending on my gig.

My only question is can I simply install the standard VCI-400 files from Vestax to work with Virtual DJ and other applications or is there something different? Just wondering how much difference the firmware will make for future updates and changes.

Right. No, a lot of people on this site use other software. But all of the special features that are specific to this controller (and it's custom firmware)...the layers of effects, jog effects, all of the stuff Ean demonstrated in the most recent video...ALL of that stuff is interplay between the controller and the custom mapping..which will only work with traktorp2.

there may be other mappings that do similar things with the controller and other software....but you don't need the EG edition for that.

For me the most important info to know would be... Will regular VCI-400 users be able to get the EGE Firmware and Mapper...

Chroma caps are already available for purchase so it's not a big deal...

Well. I guess it's basically because people don't use ONLY traktor pro 2. Even it being the main software would be nice play a little in ableton live for a bit. But i agree that the fun its to use the Special Edition on Traktor!

Well, i just brought one unit of the special edition and got me believeing about everything that was said here about what comes with it.

In my honest opinion, it would't be fair if it doesn't come with the overlays, the cd etc. I believe that even the fact that you are not able to choose the colors of the Chroma Caps (you're paying for them) is not a good point, but... maybe i could accept that for the awesome mapping.

But when you notice that at a regular store the price is about $999 and DJTT are going to sell a separated kit including a firmware update, tsi file and chroma caps (that you can choose the color you want) for $99, maybe that is a better choice than buying in DJTT store without a lot o things that come in the original package.

I'm just waiting an official pronunciation of DJTT telling us what comes in the package.

Wow I really want this! I could probably afford it... But to get it in into the UK would cost me an arm and a leg. Anybody have any hints or tips about importing? Cheers.

Or do I pre-order the EG edition, lose the stock knobs and vdj LE software

Whats your take on this?[/QUOTE]

I just purchased Traktor Pro 2 two days ago and have been playing with it and it is an absolutely amazing DJ software, alot of stuff to help fulfill all of your creative needs. Not sure how the vdj works or compared to Traktor Pro 2 but if you do plan to purchase the EG VCI 400 SE, I believe you will be more than happy running TP2 with the controller. I am currently operating Traktor Pro 2 with the keyboard cover and just that little difference has already allow me to speed up the learning curve on the software. I can't wait to get the EG controller and with TP2...what a power house combination. Best of luck to you.

Unfortunately I am in Canada. By the time I get it up here and pay the $1099, plus duties, taxes, fees and anything else they charge me It will be closer to $1300-$1400. I love the look of it but I am very confused as I am not sure what the overlay will look like for the $99 upgrade. Is it worth the extra $200 to get rid of the red section where the load/sync buttons are for permanent black plastic?

Any thoughts? As I am sure the upgrade will be a sticker and not an actual replacement of these pieces.

I was in a similar situation. Almost bought the 400 from Musicians Friend as they often have 15% off coupons. But I really wanted something that was support and made locally, plus a slight limited edition was cool. I honestly didn't like Virtual DJ LE (haven't played with pro) but I believe most people on this board really use either Serato or Traktor so it's not a big deal.

I already have Traktor 2 LE and will be making the upgrade so it's not as painful.

New dilemma. Do I buy a standard VCI-400 for $999, wait for EG firmware/overlay/tsi file and upgrade to the EG edition for $99, having the VCI look stock with some red accents and stock looks.

Or do I pre-order the EG edition, lose the stock knobs and vdj LE software for the black sync/load section and completely different look of the EG edition?

It would be nice if the EG edition gave you all of the stock hardware as a backup but from what I have read, you lose the stock knobs and software.

Whats your take on this?

Does anyone knows if the shortcut keyboard commands for Traktor Pro 2 will still work with the software on the laptop properly with the EG VCI 400 edition controller which has the special mapping when plugged into the laptop? I am completely new to the Midi controller mapping so please accept my apology if this question seems redundant to the expert controllerist.

Hah hah, well I've started back in the mid 80's when house music was at it's infancy and was not preferred by the masses, in fact the only way to hear some great dance/house tracks was usually at underground clubs or gay clubs which is where all the action is at anyways. So musically speaking, I have been around for awhile witnessing the evolution of EDM first hand as it transform into many arrays of other genre. Nevertheless, great tracks will always remain great tracks and will always move the crowd. "Good" not sure how you measure that, but for me, it's not about the tools that I have, or the software or the tricks. Those are just the means enabling me to help execute my vision and passion for the music that I love to create a great vibe on the dance floor from one track to the next. Keeping it funky is what's it all about for me.

Cheers
Wow, after that, sales of the VCI-400 EG might go down as all with gear lust will say, my tool works fine!

The only overkill is when you lack passion. None gear will be "overkill" enough if you're filled with modjo.

Hello there fellow DJ's,

I am a new member and this is my first posting. Just ordered mine the other day after months of countless research between Traktor vs Serato and S2/S4 vs VCI 100SE/EG VCI 400. I've finally decided that Traktor Pro 2 with EG VCI 400 will be the best combination of digital DJ workflow for me since I will be mainly mixing EDM.

I can't wait to receive this in the mail, it's like christmas all over again. After a long 10 years absence, I got the DJ bug again and have decided to switch from vinyl to digital DJing. So I am completely new at DJing again. I am sure the EG VCI-400 will be an overkill for a beginner but I am sure it will take a while before I out grow this baby. Thanks DJTT and Ean Golden for producing such a great edition. I am excited to be a grasshopper again and wanted to say thank you in advance to everyone here as my Zen master. I will be posting more on a regular basis with future inquiries. Thank you in advance for your support and for sharing your knowledge and expertise with me and everyone here in this wonderful supportive community.

The jog wheel performance should be comparable to the S4/S2; however the VCI-400 uses high resolution Midi where the S4/S2 uses HID

Unfortunately I do not plan on releasing a mapping for TP1. There is a chance some of the mapping will still work with TP1 but my guess would be that most of the features would be broken or unusable.

I would recommend you upgrade to TP2. I do not see any reason (other than $) why not to, it is superior.
