Why a midi fighter?
Why a midi fighter? Posted on: 22.05.2012 by Joye Pavkovich Could someone explain why everyone loves these so much? I'm not seeing how they're worth $170 over $100 for say an MPD18 that can do the same things and more. Is it just the smaller size and arcade buttons (but even then, you lose velocity sensitivity)? | |

Jonathan Chiuchiolo 22.05.2012 | they are both built with different things in mind. The mpd series are built for drumming beats in a DAW, that's why it has firm velocity sensitive pads that you can really play like an instrument as they activate with not much pressure but you need tap them fairly hard to reach 127. The midi fighter is designed to only trigger functions in dj software be they cue points or in the case of the instant gratification mapping, triggering effects. At these tasks there is no substitute as you can trigger and hold the pads with very little pressure comparatively, if you try the same thing with an mpd or indeed any pad controller your fingers will tire quickly. The arcade buttons also have an incredibly fast rebound action allowing you to hit them incredibly fast, you can even crab then if you want. In regard to velocity sensitivity it is not really required in dj software as it sounds like a good idea to be able to modulate patameters with pressure, but in reality it is very hard to get as much precision as a knob or timed modulation. |
Zonia Provens 22.05.2012 | I have used them before and I believe they are the best, I prefer the arcade buttons and they spring back super fast so you can repeat much quicker IMO then on a bad. Im also big on supporting the community as well |
robin loo 22.05.2012 | have you ever pressed an arcade button? they are really tactile and you can repeat button presses pretty fast with it. no pad controller can compete with that.. then there's the the size and just having freakin' arcade buttons in your setup.. + you support the best dj community on the planet |
