Numark 4Trak? NS6 for Traktor?
Numark 4Trak? NS6 for Traktor? Posted on: 04.01.2012 by Kandra Fagler Found these online, it seems to be taken from the manual of the upcoming numark 4trak?the 4Trak is also listed in Traktor as one of the controllers (2.1.2) Wondering when will they announce it and also wondering if the jogwheels etc are as good as the NS6 on itch (in traktor) | |

Sara Kaltwasser 19.09.2012 | It may not even be a NI/Numark thing, could be a line in a contract with Serato that prevents them being able to release the firmware, so If its Serato I would say "you got your cut when I bought it, let me be free to change it", If it's Numark I say "I own it, please let me change it", and If it's NI I say "I'm your customer please let me backward compabilitarize my rig". Man I miss the love you felt from the mixvibes, and virtual dj community s, The tech crew were right there in the community s with you trying to fix up anything for you. Traktor is in my opinion the best digital dj software on the market, and numark make great kit, but I do miss that open source community feel. well good talking to ya, back to trying to virtual OSX my laptop so I can use the mac only tsi file editor, lols with tears. peace |
Detra Hermo 19.09.2012 | I would also gladly pay for proper hid jog response with Traktor. Itch's development is moving at snails pace and we will probably never see 90% of feature requests made in our lifetime. It's sad that we end up having to resort to hacks & shady stuff just to try get functionality from a product we "thought" would have from the start. That being said, to install the firmware is the easy part. You can put the unit into update mode without Itch. We could use sysex commands to give us a full dump. I suspect this is precisely why Numark refuse to release the midi commands, as we would be able to copy the firmware using system exclusive messages. Well, that's my theory anyway. |
Sara Kaltwasser 18.09.2012 | yeh, but how to install even if someone like (oh I don't know, Dj TechTools) does grab a 4trak and make It spew up It's driver goodness, To install the ns6 driver update was done from inside itch. Some time's I feel stupid, it's not like having a platter that is a bit tighter will improve my mediocre scratching ability(no "cant scratch without real bla bla bla comments please), I's just that it is such a tiny little fix, not asking for any new anything, just for one company to make a phone call to the other and say "lets give them the file" thats all I would pay $100 for the bloody thing, we are customers of both companies and the little thing we want is just sitting on someones desk. |
Detra Hermo 18.09.2012 | The firmware holds the device id which tells your computer what is connected. So without the 4-trak firmware I doubt we can make it happen Itch is slowly getting better, so perhaps one day we can have a software with the functionality of Traktor. Until then we must keep searching for the 4-Trak firmware. |
Sara Kaltwasser 18.09.2012 | In my opinion the best workaround would be to trick the 4trak driver install into believeing the ns6 is a 4trak, i recorded the "hand shake" when the driver install asks you to plug in the hardware, from the ns6 driver installer, and the 4trak installer, then tryed to spot the difference but it would take a more computer savvy man than me to make heads of it. I hope someone can sort this out, both numark, and traktor don't seem care because there is only a handful of ns6/traktor users(maybe we should start a petition, all 10 of us), the fact is there is no money in it for them, I would pay for either NI to unlock the map-ability of the hid to ns6, or for numark to release a driver update/or firmware update to fix the problem. I have posted on both company's community s and just keep getting nowhere, I have bought 2x F1s and a ns6 and this Native Instruments/Numark customer would like my platters to be HID enabled PLEASE. |
Detra Hermo 03.07.2012 | Anyone got a copy of the 4-trak firmware available? |
Rosina Steinkuehler 14.03.2012 | I checked out your NS6 mapping last evening
and all seems to work perfectly except you cannot move the track when its stopped with the platters. Also for some reason I could not do a backspin? Otherwise fantastic work! |

Lourie Lajiness 11.03.2012 | Im believeing about buying this. If you hook up cdjs to this and use it as a mixer with no software, can you still you the filters? |
Guadalupe Guentert 04.03.2012 | Sorry for the double post - but this video should really be in the thread. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIb4uS7htNY |
Jama Nikolopoulos 24.02.2012 | Soz about that didnt know about the turn page function kind of a n00b here ;D. I'm still all for the 4trak over the s4 and its becouse i feel the s4 feels a bit flimsy because of its plastic build but the 4trak has a fantastic metal biuld (and it looks way better to impress an audience Honestly the 4trak has all the features of the s4 has just in a more spaced out manner. This fixes my issue with space as i felt the s4 is also a bit cramped and i accidentally turn nobs i shouldnt turn while turning the adjacent buttuns/nobs. The s4 is all i've been waiting for a premium Traktor controller that adresses all the issues with the s4 and looks amazing. |
Cornelius Imhof 24.02.2012 | some success!! The 4Trak tsi mapping makes the jogwheel LEDs function properly. The issue is not how do I merge the two tsi files to take advantage of this! Anyone? |

Cornelius Imhof 23.02.2012 | I wonder if Numark will release a firmware update for the NS6 that will make the jogwheel resolution better when using Traktor? |
Alena Horten 26.01.2012 | The 4Trak isn't a Mixdeck/NS6 mix. I actually don't see any difference between the NS6 and the 4Trak other than the FX unit. So it's more of a NS6/NS7 combo. Also, I don't believe the 4Trak is aimed towards the same people who own S4s. The 4Trak is aimed at Traktor users who don't need all the creative controls Traktor and the S4 offer and want a solid all metal controller with the best jogs available. Some people dislike the S4 because of it's all plastic build, and liked the NS6 but didn't like Serato. Not everybody uses all the features the S4 has to offer and those people will go with the 4Trak. |
Juliette Vensel 26.01.2012 | I believe common consensus is amongst most posters that S4 is clearly the leader in terms of integration with the software. No comparison really. There are some shortcomings as far as hardware however. This in part is what the 4Trax addresses, but even it has its shortcomings the S4 addresses. There is perfect solution it appears. To each his/her own.... |
Lakeisha Buzzini 26.01.2012 | I can chip in and give you guys some good feedback. I been using midi controllers for a while now. I also tested many before settled with the S4. This may sound a little biased but I believe Numark does not design good product. I feel if though they take short cuts and outcome is flimsy. After owning the Numark Mixdeck I don't see me ever buying another product with the name Numark on it. Mixdeck had a very poor design with the biggest issue of pitch control not being precise. It also use to make my laptop freeze and crash with million and one other issues. Bottom line good idea but terrible design. This unit is basically the NS + Mixdeck all into one. While some may argue with my opinion I will say hands down the Traktor S4 is miles and miles ahead of this. That is IF you are using or planning on using Traktor as your OS. The S4 is basically a replica of the software itself. It does everything you want and there are no buttons missing or no buttons that you will not use. All the knobs are positioned perfectly and everything is precises and right on. I wish the platters where bigger but I'm a Trance DJ so for me this does the job and then some. One feature that all these MIDI controllers are forgetting to incorporate into their design is individual LED meters !!!! Sure you can use your ear to match volume and adjust here and there but cmon this this is 2012 why not include a LED Meter? I believe the meters result into smoother mixes since you can match the gains and mix in/out faster. Now I'm not saying the S4 should be your only choice with Trakor. Trust me you want evening mares ? Then use the S4 with Windows 7 It does take time to quirk out all the bugs and get used to it. (FYI you may need to resort into a external soundcard if you plan on using the S4 with a Win 7 machine) But, once you get it running with everything fixed you will not want another controller. The only thing this has Vs the S4 is the XLR output. Other then that I don't see how this product rumored to retail for $999 can compare to the S4 at $899. That's my 2 cents and hope this helps a few if they are stuck on getting this. Do yourself a favor and play with the S4 first and save yourself that $100 bucks. |
Cornelius Imhof 25.01.2012 | When you said that the basic functions work using the 4Trak mapping with an NS6 - did that include the jogwheels and the jogwheel LEDs? If so then surely we can use that part and then remap the rest? |
Juliette Vensel 18.01.2012 | Numark 4trak official webpage Interested to see what the software tweak is from Traktor. Also the record button I will be interested in finding out if that is the loop recorder option in TP2 or no. The efx rack with added kills to filters are plenty enough but the section from the original NS6 for efx fader... curious what their function will be on this controller. |
Jeanmarie Stiegman 18.01.2012 | tryed the 4trak map on my ns6 last evening .. the most basic funktions worked fine, but others didn't.. i would bet on that almost eveything would work fine if the ns6 firmware would get an update. numark isn't producing 2 different products, but one and then put different firmware in it + eq bar for the 4trak controller. really looking forward to NAMM now ;P |
Jeanmarie Stiegman 17.01.2012 | We'll need some guys to get the firmware from the 4trak and find out how to port/upload it to the ns6.. almost like djranking s did with the vci-100. shouldn't be so difficult. |
Rosina Steinkuehler 16.01.2012 | That is what I was afraid of. Guess it's time to go ahead and sell my NS6. |

With the DX being discontinued, it isn't too much to ask, is it? |

Renaldo Chansky 16.01.2012 | The NS6 and 4Trak have different firmware, and the 4Trak has been specifically optimised for Traktor. It's always the jog wheels that cause the issues, and that I suspect will be the big difference. |

Jeanmarie Stiegman 16.01.2012 | Hey there i got a ns6. will try out the 4trak map in traktor when i got home... would be nice if it worked and numark would sell the tilt stand alone for ns6 users. |
Larisa Boissiere 15.01.2012 | I have an ns6, I actually just got it a month ago. I was so torn between traktor and the ns6 and went with the ns6. I'd love to try the mapping out. Can I download a free trial of traktor to test this out? I hope this just ends up being an add on fx bar (like for the ns7) that comes with an overlay and mapping for traktor. I just can't see them producing 2 seperate of te same units. One for serato and one for traktor. |
