Modular Digital System
Posted on: 15.02.2013 by Becky Momjian
Hellow once again it is I, Mr.Skarzay seeking advice on all things DJ.
I'm looking to build myself a modular mobile setup( on a tight $600/R7000 budget) which requires a mobile mixer. The setup will consist of:
2xDenon SC2000+Berhinger CMD LC-1+Laptop+Sennheiser HD25 headphones+(X),whereas (X) is a placeholder for the mixer im looking for which is in similar vein to the NI Z2 though not at that price tag.

Well the Behringers weren't (still aren't!) out when I needed to upgrade from the Hercules RMX I had before, plus the Reloops have a built in 10-out audio interface. Also, they're just far, far better, and they're not THAT expensive (

this is not an area to skimp on money. controllers are different. heck, a $50 ion discover dj works great, but i would not recommend going "budget" for your interface.
if you are serious, get a rane.

are you refering to NI Audio 2/6 or perhaps numark's Soundcards?

@OP, if you are on such a tight budget, is it necessary to spend so much on headphones?
I already have the headphones.

It depends on whether or not your beatgrids are okay; typically I use beatsync, and if it's out of sync I'll "beatmatch" by adjusting the grids live. Only time you really come up against any issues are tracks where the BPM isn't constant, and then manual beatmatching wouldn't work either, unless you rode the platters.

Temposync is fine, but Beatsync is very risky.

There's nothing to stop you from remapping one of the controls to pitchfader; I've got Shift+Jog in Pitchbend mode set up to control to tempo. Still, I use sync most of the time; beatmatching manually when you're using Traktor just seems backwards to me.

But you get no pitch faders so no beatmatching. Still don't get why you'd want a little platter like that if you were not going to beatmatch. :P

Unless you need a microphone input, the best bang for your buck - modular wise - would be had using a pair of Reloop Contours (one IE and one CE) and the Behringer MM-1.

This is the modular setup I had planned before I got my Terminal Mix 4:

Audio 2+6 are solid. The Numark IO is decent too.

Do not buy American DJ unless you are keeping it in the bedroom.

With the Denon what? SC2000s?

You'll still need a sound card like the Traktor Audio 2 to output each deck separately to the mixer.

Is it possible to pair the DJM-250 or 350 (couldn't find an Allen & Heath alt.) with the DENON ?It's within price reach and quality looks promising.

The Xone K2 has a built in sound card but it's only 2 stereo channels and has a low output volume.

And Sennheiser 25s are never a bad idea

Since you're interested in the CMD LC-1, have you considered the MM-1?

it seem to me that you don't need the mixer like the Z2 or DJM-T1 (mixers with dedicated MIDI buttons), your controllers (denon and behringer) already have transport and FX buttons and knobs.
