Title says it all really...

DarioJ and I have decided to give up the devilish little white sticks, in favour of better health, cleaner lungs and heavier pockets, full of money to spend on new kit!

My quite date is the 15/01/2013. I believe for most of you this will make sense written like this; 01/15/2013

My aim for the end of the year is to have enough for a DJM2000 Nexus!

Anyone wants to join or just to offer support/hints/tips, then feel free.

Peace out

I started buying a 12" instead of each tin I would have bought and I've got a pretty nice collection now haha.
That snus is good stuff - really creative way to quit, props. Wish I had the room to collect vinyls.

Got a Ibanez bass, amp, and a bunch of cords. Looking to buy a VCI-400 soon (will be posting in buy sell once I get past this 5 post limit :P).

I've made it through 4 days, though I've cheated a couple times. No more than one cigarette a day though.

Can't believe all the responses this has got already, cheers guys!

Im counting down to Tuesday now, probably get through two more packs by then, and then I can start saving the money in massive jar that I have created and hopefully, start ticking things off the wish list that i have written on the back of it. Each time I want one, I just have to believe that I a, burning part of my yet to be acquired mac or DJM2000 etc!

Keep em coming, and good luck to everyone else who is giving up/believeing about it!

Wow. Never heard about that. Sounds interesting. I've had to go cold turkey. Part of the problem for me is if I have cigs in the house ill smoke them. The reason I've gone this long now is because I don't have any around and not the opportunity to buy any.

And I'm totally with you all on the "routine" smokes. Think that's how I blind sided myself into believeing I was a social smoker and not realising I actually smoked full time. I had about 5-7 "routine" cigs every day. But they don't count!!

Day 11 for my wife and I. She smoked socially, I was about 5-10 day, include alcohol, double it.

Gone cold turkey, it's tough... I'm irritable as fvck but I'm feeling great:-D

Almost 3 years without a cigarette. I was prescribed Zyban to help. It worked for me, but I heard it doesn't work for everyone. Good luck.

Couldn't agree with this more!

The hardest thing for me is going to do is to get out of the 'routine' ones; the one with a coffee first thing, the two on the drive to work, the one on the drive home... I could go on!

Might buy me a Rubik's cube to fill up the gaps... Except the ones on the drive to work

you should start now if you have ciggies left, otherwise you are setting yourself up to fail with no backup plan... and if you believe about it holistically it will still be now on the 15th

Holy Crap!!! Didn't believe this was going to get 5 pages long in 24hours... Some great motivational stuff going on here... Wow.

I've quit a couple times in the past. Once with the assistance of chewing straws till they were mangled into small wads of plastic and the second cold turkey... That was 3 years ago. Now I am back up a pack in a 24 hour period. That includes sleeping time... and as far as I know it, I am not able to smoke while sleeping. So you can imagine how bad my habit might be.

My job doesn't help at all either. I drive all over the state where I am getting in and out of the car constantly. I am sure most of you guys can relate to the whole car and cig thing.

Regardless - its good to see others that have gone through and are going through this. Definitely will popping in and out of here to keep up with it. I am sure I'll also start on the 15th as the pack that I just bought will stretch out till then . Oh God help me.....

Went down from 10-15 a day a few months ago to around 4-5 a day now. I can't just quit flat but refuse to buy nicotine patches or gum so I'm planning on dropping one per day every few weeks. My biggest problem is killing the habit of smoking while doing X things rather than the urge to have a cig out of the blue.

A pack of red marlboros is around $2 so that isn't really an issue. Social conditions are pretty much what FEP explained, makes sense being an ex spanish colony.

Promised myself to quit after I get a decent job tho so hopefully that day comes soon

The thing that really got me going was the price of cigarettes in spain. Here in the UK they cost as-near-as-makes-no-difference

I had my last cig on NYE. Really want to give it a good go this time. Always said I'd quit when I turned 30. I'm 33 this year!!

The biggest problem for me will be when I next have a beer. The 2 go hand in hand. I havent had a drink since NYE so not had the temptation. I always thought I was a social smoker. And in truth I was somewhat as I could go all week without smoking or even believeing about cigs but I always knew that at the weekend I'd smoke like a chimney.

Anyway, as long as I'm not drinking I'm not smoking. So all good for now. It also helps that in Perth it's $10 for a pint and $20 for a packet of cigarettes.

I stopt smoking in 2010. And with smoking i mean cigarettes

My save was that is wanted to sport. So when I finished my sport session and lighted a cigarette, I was believeting "what are you doing?" sweating my ass of in the gym and when i'm done I poisening myself with this crap.

After two years I'm able to manage to smoke sometimes. But I'm still in sports and the 'hunger' for cigarettes is always there.

So for those of you who will stop. GO for it and let nothing take you down. Ask your friends to stimulate you instead of trying to seduce you to smoke again, because it 'social'.

Other practical reasons to stop are: No stinky breath, clothes and house. Personally, I wil never be in a relationship with a chick who smokes everyday.

My housemate and I are also wanting to get one of these smoking things.

I tried one over NYE and the 'hit' felt legit.

I currently smoke about 20 to 30 medium strength cigs a day......and LOVE to smoke. But hate how it affects my health.

Also toke the herbs...which does not help the situation. Herbs + Tobacco....compounds the tar getting in.

OK TV's not great at 3am, but at least there's no chance of running into jeremy kyle. I mostly just use Netflix, recorded TV and iPlayer these days anyway, TV schedules are like so yesterday!

Must be better TV all round in St.Albans... It's pretty much poor 24/7 in Manchester ;-) TV sucks!

Just finished the box set of the pacific though.... AWESOME!

I've got two weeks off from my job and I'm back in on the 21st as coincidence would have it. Longest break I have had since September, so though I would get most of the "I've just quit smoking grrrrrr" ratty-ness out of my system instead of inflicting it upon my poor colleagues when I go back.

I've been using a really slim not-much-bigger-than-a-cigarette one until now and the hit just isn't good or indeed reliable. Plus you have to point it vertically upwards or it tastes like burnt plastic after 2 hits.
