global modifiers?
global modifiers? Posted on: 04.12.2010 by Tamiko Vandergriff im using traktor pro and now i cant continue making a better midimapping due to lack of an global modifier.my setup: mixer behringer 4k a pair of eks xp10 the actual plan was hitting a button on the behringer should change the function of the xp's. in this case i want to select the deck which i want to control with the xp's. the xp mapping is fine, i used there a modifier to store this information. i used to choose it on the xp's directly, but now i want to make a straighter mapping and put this deck selection on my behringer where i have a lot of other deck/fxbank dependend stuff. is there some sort of global modifier? or a workaround for this? i couldn't merge the 2 tsi mapping files to use the same modifiers... btw: is there a tool or a editor wich can modify tsi files without the use of the copy paste resistant traktor? | |

When you press the red modifier button indicated in diagram 1, it changes the modifier to M=1... You can remap ALL of your controls to perform different functions, AS LONG as you set these functions to be active when M=1 3. Press the blue and it changes to M=2, once again, you can remap all your controls to perform different functions as long as you set them to M=2 4. Same thing again, yellow button changes to M=3 and you can once again remap all your controls to other functions to set the modifier condition of a particular control once it is mapped to the button knob... there should be a "modifier condition" section, its like the second row down of options in the controller manager, and theres 2 dropdown boxes... well technically theres 4, but you only need the first 2 on the left... the first one is the modifier, and second one is the number... Set these to the appropriate modifier you want... so if you wanted it to do the function you have just assigned, say after you press the red button... set it to M=1, for blue M=2 and so on... Note: if you dont set up the modifier conditions correctly, you may find that you have knobs/buttons controlling 2 things at once... if this happens... make sure you have set the appropriate modifier conditions for the control... P.s. i will be making a video tutorial on advanced midi mapping and modifiers in traktor at some point in the near future which will explain things in detail and ill be walking through the basic steps so people can follow along... but at the moment i am swamped with stuff to do for the record label, plus club gigs and trying to squeeze in some time for my own productions... and i believe somewhere in between all that i try and sleep and eat sometimes... |

Kecia Wnukowski 05.12.2010 | you don't have to merge two tsi files to use your modifiers as long as each one of your controllers can receive midi signal from another. You just have to create the modifier within the two mappings, they can have the same name, or different, whatever. On merging, actually I'm not even sure Traktor Tools still works with the current version of Traktor. Lastly you're not limited by 8 modifiers, as explained above you can use the different states (values) of a single modifier (0 to 7 so that's eight values) and in case of need, you can even create several different mappings for the same controller and then use another 'batch' of modifiers. |

Lawanna Rebeles 06.12.2010 | nice input on the modifiers Filterkat ... gonna have to look into that alot more .. |
Janyce Jardon 06.12.2010 | Haha... thx... just trying to help :P |
Antonetta Wikel 06.12.2010 | Some really great posts there, Filterkat. |
Janyce Jardon 05.12.2010 | nah 8 modifiers is HEAPS... a modifier isnt limited to the one control... you can have the same modifier for multiple functions on different knobs... of course if you wanted to assign more than 8 functions to the 1 particular knob, then i see your problem... but honestly, personally i cant see that happening... believe of it as like.. i dunno a hotel... you have the lobby... which are your basic controls M1=0 you have the first floor... you can reassign ALL your controls to different functions M1=1 second floor... more functions M1=2 and so on and so on... 8 layers of functions is ALOT of functions... unless your midi controller only has like 2 or 3 buttons on it... i dont see 8 layers being a problem... heck the most ive used is 5 or 6 i believe and that was a REALLY complex mapping... so every new modifier condition lets you remap EVERY control on your midi controller to something else... as long as you specify it to that modifier... |
Tamiko Vandergriff 05.12.2010 | thx anyway, you helped alot. i found traktor tools and will now merge those tsi's. the only bad thing is now the limit of 8 modifiers... this crops my possibility's alot |
Janyce Jardon 04.12.2010 | oh soz i misread your post... i believe there is a way for one midi controller to have an effect on the other, being able to switch modifiers on one to control the other... but im almost certain you need to merge the TSI files... i know there is a way to do this though... Just look up about Merging TSI files with multiple midi devices... ive read some useful info about it on these community s... |
Janyce Jardon 04.12.2010 | which version of traktor pro are you using... there should be a global modifier section. If you click on your controller manager, click on the "add in" button, the tab right down the bottom should be "modifier" theres 8 of them, so you have 8 "pages" you can theoretically make... you would have to assign a button to swap/enable the modifier... and then on all your current mappings you would have to set a modifier condition... so for instance you have something set to "function X" on lets say... "button B" you would have to set it so that when you press the assigned modifier button... lets call it "button A", when you press "button A" it switches "button B"s function to control "function Y" you would also have to set it so that the buttons dont clash with each other... so for instance, "Button B" is assigned to "function X" only when M=0 and when "button B" is assigned to "function Y" Only when M=1, with "button A" essensially switching between M=0 and M=1 It might sound a bit complicated, but it should all be there in traktor pro if you have the latest version... on each of your assignments, there should be a "modifier condition" tab... this is where you set the "M=0" and "M=1" paramaters... then you just need a spare button to assign to the modifier change as i stated above... which should be right down the bottom of the "add in" list. Hope this helps... otherwise PM me and ill try and explain it more simply and clearly... sometimes i can ramble a bit believeing people know what im on about when really im the only one who understands what im saying... |
