Traktor Pro VCI-100 Mapping, No overlay needed, designed for 1.2 firmware.

Hi guys,

After recently getting my VCI-100, I found and have used a variety of mappings for the controller. The best I found for my own needs, was this great 2 deck mapping from this thread:-

http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=2868

However, it had some minor functionality bugs, and when I looked closer under the hood, alot of redundant note mappings.

I've now stripped it back to basics, whilst keeping, or upgrading its functionality, and curing the odd bug along the way. The end result is my take on traktor 2 deck mapping. It doesn't use any modifiers, so should be easily portable to previous versions of traktor as well.. but I haven't specifically tried this.

Every button is mapped to its original labelled function, unless it didn't have a function, or was spare.

A quick walk through for those interested in using it:-

Top Left Section.

The three buttons on the left side of this area are used as follows:-

Top) Scroll Up the folder list
Middle) Scroll down the folder list
Bottom) Change the view to browser and back to decks.

The Four small black buttons next to these (from the top down):-

Increase loop size of Deck A (but not set a loop)
Decrease loop size of Deck A (but not set a loop)
Increase loop size of Deck B (but not set a loop)
Decrease loop size of Deck B (but not set a loop)

The load buttons:-

All work as originally labelled.

The 4 buttons directly underneath this section (Loop*4, Key, Vinyl Mode, Sync), and the same set opposite, all work as labelled.

Note on Vinyl Mode. This swaps the platters from scratch mode, to search mode.

The jogs:-

Pitch bend using the edges, or scratch/search depending on vinyl mode button.

The transport buttons at the bottom, all work as labelled.

The centre effects section:-

Both halves mirror each other, for decks A (left) and B (right).

From the top:-

Trim (gain) .. As labelled.

Top three eq's:- High, Mid, Low. (These are labelled, high, mid high, and mid low)
Bottom button (labelled low):- Filter

Small black balance knob:- Key Change.
Effect button:- Toggles effects units 1 & 2, either on or off. So.. if both units are set to off when you press this, both units will come on for that deck. However, if you have one unit on, and one off, this button is a toggle, so the effect is this:-

Both On -> Both Off
Both Off -> Both On
Unit 1 Only On -> Unit 2 Only On
Unit 2 Only On -> Unit 1 Only On

You can set individual effects units on and off in the next section.

The effects section (Top right of unit):-

Effect button:-

This button does nothing on its own, but sets the LED for master, A or B.

When set to A:-

The effect select buttons (small black ones) turn on/off FX units 1 & 2 (top button and bottom button).

The rotaries (but NOT the far right one), change the FX amount of your chained effects on unit 1 (which I have over deck A, hence linking it with the LED A).
The buttons under each rotary turn the effect on or off.
The far right rotary is d/w control. The button under it is un-used as its midi messages are used elsewhere and is a known bug with firmware 1.2

When set to B:-

The three rotaries and buttons underneath, affect your advanced FX on unit 2. The far left rotary affects d/w as before. But to turn on the FX unit use the effect button inside the very top left area (labelled effect).

When the LED is set to master:-

The rotaries and buttons under do nothing. I've yet to decide what to do with these, probably cue juggling I believe. Version 1.1 will have these implemented.

All faders work as labelled.

Remember, for this mapping to work, you must have chained effects set to FX unit 1, and advanced to FX unit 2.

is there a way to adjust sensitivity besides the screws on the back? they dont seem to be very fine as far as adjustment.

where can i find info on hot key implentation for traktor?

I made that mapping a long time ago, and I believe there was a bug with that filter.

Simply look at the mappings for the other knob that works and make sure all the same mappings are there for deck b as well.

I'm finally about to flash upgrade my firmware to 1.4 and will be updating the tsi file shortly!

Thorough,

Just a quick update re loops. It seems that if you are in between a current loop start and loop end marker, not all the midi assignments work as their on screen versions do, which is why you sometimes feel you need to double click to get it working. I've posted this issue in another thread so lets see what comes up.

Check the new thread with the latest (1.2.4) 4 deck mapping, also including all the updates I did to my 1.2 mapping.

This is the best Tci have found for my style so far. only believe i would like is some hotkey implementation for loops and such. the effects are a bit confusing but i suppose that allows for more options so i prob just have to get used to this.
also i kind of miss the simple browser that was on the stock version i had. I feel like i have to use my mouse more now.

a couple questions.
is there a button for loop active or some shortcut im missing? hitting loop doesnt do it for me right away. is a double click hold situation?
does this tci affect platter sensitivity? much more sensitive than previous tci i had.
is there a way to adjust sensitivity besides the screws on the back?

Thanks for your hard work thus far!

Nice one evil, thanks for that! Using it and it works great apart from 2 things which I'll try to work out.

Also, just wondering, did you map a low eq kill? Can't work it out, my mapping abilities suck

Newbie alert!

Just got my VCI-100 last week and was drawn straight to these community s and I am *loving* this mapping, but the question is, is there any news on the fixed filter knob?

Thanks!

I would love to help out, but I'm useless when it comes to midi-mapping.

27.10.2009
lemme check how to boot it back into 1.2 mode and I'll fix it.
The reason is that 1.3 firmware makes some pretty big changes to the knob I use for the filter command...
Heidi Alred
27.10.2009
Do you need the VCI to be running 1.2 to fix it, or can you just change the TSI file itself? I'm willing to test it out for you if you'd like. Or if you can even just say which filter commands need to be set to ON, I can try changing it myself..

Thanks man, we appreciate you looking into it
Vernon Positano
26.10.2009
Ok guys,

I've found the problem. Some of the filter commands have the value parameter set to off, when they should be on. Its a pretty trivial fix, but I'm knackered after a long weekend of gigs.

If someone reminds me how to boot the VCI into 1.2 mode from a 1.3 upgrade I'll sort it.

Thanks DJMoonie!

really appreciate it.

I tried tackling it myself, but gave up pretty quickly.

Awesome mapping, thanks!

One bug I noticed that I didn't see covered here (maybe I'm just blind): the EQ(LOW) knob that controls the "Filter" for Deck B doesn't turn it on automatically. I have to do it manually, but any time it crosses "0%" it turns off again and doesn't turn back on like it should. This works fine on Deck A.

Any ideas?

All you need to do is download the mapping file, the link for which is in the first post of this thread.

Then unzip it using winzip etc, and save the file to a folder of your choice.

In traktor, simply select file ->Midi Mapping.

Then hit the import button and browse for the file you just saved.

Easy!

Thanks very much for the help, but it appears it may in fact be my VCI-100. Rather than the effect button for Deck A lighting up properly, the one for Deck B appears to light up with a small blue dot. I guess I'll contact Vestax =(.
Vernon Positano

Ok,

I have found and fixed the output LED issue, so that the effects buttons for the decks now light up if you have either bank 1 or bank 2 selected. There is however, a side effect which still needs to be resolved, which I believe is caused by the order in which traktor processes the midi map.

If you have FX bank 2 active, and hit the effect button for the deck, it will correctly switch off bank 2, and turn on bank 1 (its a toggle as explained previously). However, doing this, causes the LED for effect button for that deck to turn off (It should stay on, because you still have at least one FX bank active on that deck). It works fine in reverse (toggling FX 1 to off, and FX 2 to on). I'm sure modifiers could be used to get around this, but for now, you'll just have to live with it, or mod the TSI yourselves

I've also fixed the missing set cue command as mentioned previously. The upload link at the top of the thread has the corrected TSI file.
Vernon Positano
21.07.2009
I've just had a look at this, and there appears to be an issue. This is probably with the TSI mapping file and not your LED.

If you use the effect select buttons to turn on FX bank 2, the effect button LED for the appropriate deck should light up, but it does not. It does however work if you turn on FX bank 1. I'm sure its probably just a missing output command in my TSI, which I will sort out shortly.

Great mapping, but just one question. Is the Effect button for Deck A not lighting up for anyone else? Deck B's is. Or maybe my LED is broken, which would suck since I just got it today.
Vernon Positano

Glad you guys are finding the mapping useful.
I will add commands for when the master red light is lit in the effects section shortly, then start on the 1.3 version
