I am using the 12" 1.33 and am about to put 1 gig of ram in for a total 0f 1.25. I have a pc desktop that meets min spec for traktor but my laptop is fine for ableton. Coming from a traditional ttable setup I am trying to determine the best option for me without spending a ton of money I dont have.

i did too, it definitely helped out a bit though it would be great if they updated it (or just posted an online-addendum) to cover 3.3 and more importantly briefly cover control surfaces and their default mappings.

Traktor just looks intimidating (that is how I felt too). I started playing with Virtual DJ because the layout is much more friendly to a newbie. After time, I just wasn't having any luck with VDJ's beatgrids, and their effects were kinda cumbersome to play with.

I was originally looking down the route of a Hercules controller and VDJ, but after a LOT of homework, and many of Ean's videos, I ended up saving all my pennies for a VCI-100 and an Audio 8 DJ for Traktor 3.3. I don't regret it at all.

I really suggest downloading the Traktor 3 demo. It's full featured, you just have to close it and re-open it every half hour. It also saves all of your beatgrids (which are far more accurate and easier than VDJ) even though you are still using the demo. Do what I did; use the demo to practice and make your beatgrids, then pay for the full version later as your mixes get better and you get sick of restarting every half hour.

I also bought the Traktor 3 DVD tutorial. It is very helpful, but try to find it used, cause once you get that stuff down, you will no longer need it.

Hope this helps anyone out there.

I love traktor and hate virtual dj, it seems like a toy by comparison, traktor just seems more professional. I had a quick look at deckadance and was fairly impressed by what i saw. Could say after about 20 - 30 minutes i liked it more than VDJ.

It's all about preparation and having your tracks warped properly. From there, you can have a track sliced up many different ways that you can then trigger and switch back and forth from to make your own edit on the fly... or not. You can A-B mix and enjoy yourself just as well without all that.

As far as mixing, I personally don't even bother with cueing. I don't believe it's needed if you warped your stuff right and know your tracks.

I tried Traktor, Deckadance, and Virtual DJ and liked VDJ the best of the three personally, but I'm still in the process of setting it up in a way I like it's a on going process. I like the fact that you can VJ with it that's probably the biggest advantage to me over the others, but also believe the vinyl emulation sounds best with VDJ.

Tracks gridded and then broken down into samples which I then layer on top of one another etc - Mostly like Moldover.

I dont' see the point in not syncing tracks your going to use - its usually not that hard and means u don't have to waste time doing it live. Altough I can usually grid a track well enough live while other track is playing if needs be.

I am in a few minds about the delivery methods of getting my audio into Ableton, Deckadance isnt quite cutting it for me even if it has VST client support - though deckadance is a piece of software i have a very close and keen eye on. So recently i've switched over to a Ableton only setup for some experimentation, I will also give Traktor a go with the Virtual Audio Cable software and see how i go routing the audio into Ableton.

Ive also started using the smart mixer setup using only Ableton Live devices and found it to use much less processing power while also having a much cleaner user interface. While i have found Moldovers Reaktor very interesting and its given me a lot of ideas for what i can do with my own setup, though i don't believe i will continue to use the Reaktor files.

Still using Ableton (mouse/keyboard only! ), the open source dj tool mixxx or regular vinyl (2x SL1200). However I am looking out for an all new MIDI setup.

Might stick to Ableton though.

I use Traktor for all of it. I'd like to get involved with Ableton Live, but between money and the desire to still get everything out of Traktor I can I believe it'll wait.

Started with Virtual Turntables (VTT) some 10 years ago!

I got so fast doing beatmatching and syncing that I could mix from a single output and nobody would notice. Even made my own skins for the thing. Ten years on and people still call you an idiot for using mixing digitally - good job the revolution has finally caught us up.

Years ago I used deejaysystem a lightweight but powerfull and stable software. Then I discovered traktor studio 1 and I never left it traktor was different from the others.. different from the awful mixvibes 2.24 or pcdj.. or the worst.. the atomix mp3..

About Virtualdj... I tried once and after I played with high/mid/low knobs I remove it from Pc.. Virtualdj don't sound good even with a good soundcard.
