Reply to sound cards and 7.1 speakers

Hi guys, i was investing in getting some 7.1 speakers in use with movies and a computer, and was reading that you needed a good soundcard to make good use of the speakers... i already have a soundcard that supports 7.1, would the presonus firebox work with these speakers aswell? thanks
