Reply to qwerty MIDI controller

Hey guys,
I've been doing research for a while on DIY MIDI controller's, and seeing as I'm an unemployed and rarely have ANY money, I decided on constructing a MIDI controller out of a keyboard, I know this is perfectly do-able, reading various community s and what not.

However, I wish to construct a box to house the key's in, and I want to rearrange the keys for better playing, is this possible? If so, is it worth it? I have next to no money, and even the KORG mini series is within my price range.
