The Vestax Spin DJ Controller!
Posted on: 17.11.2009 by Humberto Partis
Hi everyone!

So, this awesomeness midicontroller has landed to the earth, and some of you already know the name of it, Vestax Spin DJ Controller!

Anyways, I got some questions!

Some people on DJTT already got it, I saw some comments on the "news" thingy about the controller, and I was wondering, can someone make a review? Video reviews? Some samples?

And I got this question about the controller in general!

I'm heading to the states in about 38 days, i'm going to stay there for.. 5 weeks! And, already the Spin Controller has been sold out in apple store (shipping in 2-3 weeks)! AND the bad thingy is that - when i'm getting there, the christmas weekend has started and i'm guessing that it's going to be sold out kind of quick

ANYWHO, what do you believe about the problem i'll got there? Can I order it when im in the states, and be KNOWING that 2-3 weeks it's on my cousins doorstep? because, sometimes (so i heard) apple can ship stuff after, like.. 4-5 weeks when it says 2-3 weeks

I'll hope this thread can be like a "official" Vestax Spin DJ Controller!
Info about the controller, and news articles and so on!

Have a great day!

ps. if you got the controller, please make a review or youtubevideo or something when your using it! ds.

Lol i'm just so used to knobs for so many years
Also it looks piss easy to map as there's not too many parameters on it eh

Whitch TRAKTOR? there are three versions

If you buy the Vestex "spin" or VCI300 (witch both have built in soundcards) you can just get TRAKTOR PRO (which is just software)

If you get the VCI 100 (no built in soundcard) your going to want to get TRAKTOR SCRATCH DUO, or TRAKTOR SCRATCH PRO (much more expensive cause it comes with software and a soundcard.)

I would be so amazingly grateful to anyone out there that could help with a mapping of the spin for traktor scratch pro...

it's my first time ever mapping a midi controller- i understand the basics but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to map a few crucial elements

if someone could share their .tsi that they've already made i would jump for joy!

As for the Spin & PC, all you need essentially is a computer, the controller, software (with midi mapping), headphones, & speakers.

so if you add up those numbers the VCI 300 is a much more solid and professional grade unit for a lower price.

Traktor on the other hand with the "spin" is a smart choice for a beginner on a slight budget.

Hopefully someone answers my question and I hope it works.

It's funny iv got the sickest digital enhancing software CS4 on m computer and could have made this look actually real, but i decided to go with MS Paint...

i only sampled silver knobs and faders you can buy individually online (so it's fully creatable if you like it.)

So as long as I have ASIO4all, it's fine right?

It's really tempting for me to take this over the Omni Control ($100 more and the jog doesn't seem so interesting to use).

Nope.
DJio+Stealth=$300 (No tax)
Vestax Spin=$250+tax

Bunch of newb questions here. Why the VCI-300 was so attractive was that Itch and Scratch were so closely integrated; i.e. you could use the VCI-300 as a home thing, then just grab the laptop and control vinyl to play in a club SL1/SL3 setup (in New Zealand there ain't nothing but Serato setup in the clubs )
This thing looks like a MUCH more affordable solution for the home mucking around thing, but you'd have to maintain a separate Scratch library and that DJay software looks uber-gimmicky tbh. As I understand it, you can't map a jogwheel-based controller to Scratch Live (is that still right?) so could you map the Spin to Itch to at least keep the shared libraries? Or has Serato locked away the midi maps for Itch still?

Cheers

Oh! However, that won't help with making the lights work (since they run on the same MIDI Out as the MIDI In for the sliders). This could be more complicated than I originally thought. There must be a work around to get the lights and the controls to work together without causing the controller to freeze.

so it doesn't come with a proper ASIO pc driver? what are Vestax believeing of?!

Were talking about just PC right? This thing would work fine with main and headphone output on Mac right?

wha? 2 mono ins / 2 mono outs? so traktor wouldn't see the headphone output as a separate out?

Anyway, the controller would still receive data for the master and monitor outs, even though the midi didn't work. It kind of sucked, I had to control the computer with my mouse during the peak of my set. At least it worked with Traktor!

I'll have to test whether or not it's a software or hardware problem.
