If I wanted to try this on a tiny budget. Posted on: 09.01.2011 by Carie Pele Hi there I considered getting into the whole MP3 DJing thing a good while back to broaden my hobbies and hopefully get back into music again. Sadly life got in the way until now as I've got a little bit of money saved up to hopefully dip my toes in the water again. But here is my Dilemma. I can't for the life of me work out what I'm supposed to buy. All I would like to do is mix at home with the sound coming out my speakers and a separate channel for the headphones. So here's where I stand. I own... A PC with Traktor on it (given by a friend) A set of cheap DJ headphones If I bought a Numark Mixtrack pro (the one with the sound card) what is the cheapest possible option for me to get sound out my PC speakers and sound out of the headphones. If I bought the Mixtrack without the soundcard whats the cheapest option to do the above also. I know this is probably a really basic question for you guys but I genuinely am lost in a sea of "Buy this | |

Marva Cupid 10.01.2011 | i use my perents aiwa it works great |
Carie Pele 09.01.2011 | Scrap that I've got a 15 year old Aiwa stereo kicking about somewhere. I could potentially use that. |
Shay Wyche 09.01.2011 | Do you have anything with a line input? An Ipod dock or anything like that. You could buy an RCA to mini jack cable and then plug it in to that. Anything to amplify the sound coming from the sound card. |
Carie Pele 09.01.2011 | Am I totally screwed if I don't have an amp or stereo system lol |
Shay Wyche 09.01.2011 | I work a lot in Aberdeen. Just back from 3 days there working in the three Next stores. I'm from Falkirk myself. |
Carie Pele 09.01.2011 | Yup from Aberdeen. |
Shay Wyche 09.01.2011 | Connect the controller to the laptop with a USB. Then connect one set of RCA leads from output 1 to your amplifier (stereo system). Plug you headphones in to the front of the controller. Then you're good to go. Like the name by the way. You Scottish? |
Carie Pele 09.01.2011 | Thanks for the reply. So another thing I'm not fully understanding is how you connect it all up. Am I right in saying I would need two sets of RCA cables to go between the external sound card and the decks. Then just have my PC's internal sound card coming out the normal jack at the back? If I plugged my headphones into the deck at the front would I get sound through them for mixing and then the outputted sound from my main PC speakers? Sorry these are really basic questions but I know next to nothing about sound cards and audio gear . |
Kiyoko Wellisch 09.01.2011 | Hi Scotswahey. Personally I'd recommend getting a separate soundcard and controller since it'll allow you to upgrade your controller without having to worry about it having a build in sound card. That and the quality of built in sound cards with lower priced controllers seem pretty damn poor. If all you want is two outputs you can't really go wrong with the NI audio 2 DJ, though I'm sure there are a few others that may be just as good for a similar price. As for controllers I believe the korg nano kontrol is an awesome bit of kit if you just wanna try it out without making any real commitment. Nothings cheaper and it has plenty of knobs and faders and such. |
