Reloop - Why not to buy a Digital Jockey 2 from them

I checked out a few controllers and decided the Reloop Digital Jockey 2 seemed really good.

I liked the feel of it, so I bought one

Hi

I know what your saying

but a few people have had problems with buttons 'not firing' or 'double firing On off' that kinda shiz doesn't wash .

Reloop were ignorant and edited my community posts without giving indication that they were edited, very bad practice. if i said 1 bad thing and 2 good things, they would only leave the 2 good things. it made me doubt the integrity of their community .

it went back to repair and they didn't repair it.

I liked the feel of the controller, but buttons stopped working after a few hours.

I have pre ordered the VCI 100 Mk2
it appears to have a better layout than the Reloop
and hopefully is better quality

Yeah the keyboard is always there. Click the drop down arrow next to it and the other mapping should be below it. Should work just fine.

i've tried every single one on the community s and others from several google searches... maybe i'm doing something wrong??? i open up the settings, go to controller management, then to import, load the .tsi file and from there it should work right?

after trying it out and going back into the management window the mapping has always reverted back to the generic keyboard setting, never sure if its meant to show that or not...

moments later when i open the box again:

You tried any of the maps from the reloop community ? I can't remember the one I used but it was the jog wheel effects mapping in there mapping section. I'll have a dig around tomorrow and see if I can post it.

Bumping this topic in the hope that someone has a map out there that actually works. I've had this controller for over two years and never found a map that works. I've tried adjusting others and setting mine up but the midi allocations are all over the place, was trying to adjust the monitor cue on one side to the sync button (because I don't use it) and it ended up replacing the play button!

Possibly the most fustrating consumer product I've ever had the displeasure of owning. That said when I got the map half working and limping along the controller survived bars all over the place...

I have had Reloop Digtal Jockey Interface Edition 1 for two years. I believe it was a good build quality except the cue/play and all other switches, that I have had to replace for new ones. If You have problems with buzz sound, try to use power socket without grounding for Your laptop AC/DC adaptor, for me it helps.

that's some heavy modification bro

respect to you

I replaced mine with another controller.

I might get the new vestax vc1400 when it comes out in December.

I felt Reloop really let me down.

Between 'Reloop not working' and 'Traktor being shockingly awkward to program', i got really put off digital DJing for a few months.

Maybe write to reloop and suggest where they can get better components from. i would but they banned me from their community for telling the truth.

I had a couple of problems with my vestax.....vestax swaped it in a day.....

Since I faced some very annoying issues with CUE/PLAY switches of my Reloop Digital Jockey 2 ME, I decided to replace them all, even they are working well or not. The new swithces seems to be more reliable and more faster then "yellow" ones.

fyi, soundcard is shit, if you want the digital jockey get the controller edition, but the soundcard in the interface edition is not worth the higher cost to controller edition at all.

but like the guy said, try to pick up a vci-100, best purchase you can make controller wise directly after s4

imo i would look for picking up a vci100 se second hand (alot around due to the s4) and an audio 2 good soundcard, good controller, lots of support ticks all the boxes you could get the reloop but i wouldn't recommend it

Regarding the power supply, Flash101uk is right, the controllers are USB powered and the power supplies are only included as backup. That way you can unplug the USB and still have audio running from the input (ipod or such).

I wanted to create my own MIDI mapping for Traktor but could not find a correct MIDI layout overview. Therefore I decided to create one on my own. This MIDI layout works for the Reloop Digital Jockey 2 interface and Reloop Digital Jockey 2 controller and can be downloaded in PDF and PNG format from:

http://www.basvandijk.eu/2010/10/30/...yout-overview/

If you have any comments regarding these layouts, do hesitate to let me know.

I owned a Reloop Digital Jockey 2 Interface Edition for almost a year, and although at first I had to deal with about the same quality (or lack thereof) support my issues were anything but show stoppers. I couldn't get it to control 4 decks "out of the box" as it was advertised. A fair bit of remapping was necessary to get it working with 4 decks. As Traktor - Ready 4 deck controller as it was touted to be, the whole deal was a bit disappointing. But since I don't actually need 4 decks, I quickly grew to ignore this.

The headphone buzz was present with my unit as well, but it was really low and once you had something playing in your headphones you could barely even tell it was still there. So it's something I very easily ignored.

Other than that my experience was quite positive. I enjoyed using the controller a fair bit and I used it on a few gigs as well as playing in my bedroom.

Generally speaking I thought the build quality was very good, buttons all worked flawlessly for me and the looping and fx features it sported was what I really loved most about it.

I sold it about 2 weeks ago only because I hardly ever used it. I'm no superstar dj and I get gigs 2-3 times a year, so it was basically a box worth 370 euro that was collecting dust on my desk. Using it in my daily production work proved to be less than optimal.

Therefore I decided to sell it and with the money I got off it I bought a Novation Nocturn and a Saffire 6 USB (2in/4out soundcard). This way I can use these daily in my production work and still have a mini-setup to use on the rare occasions I do get to play out.

Money way better spent.

I might have simply been extremely lucky to own a working unit... Still this is my experience.

It's unusable on Macs, it can't even light op two or more LED's at the same time. It always just lights up just one of the LED's randomly. This is with every program, with every single Mac. And the stupid thing is that in Windows (Boot Camped for example) there's not a problem at all.
Experiencing exactly the same (also on Mac) and that's unforgivable in a live situation because even when your ears give you the right feedback, you definitely will press a button that you shouldn't based on the wrong led feedback once in a while (actually: pretty often). I've wasted countless programming hours on this device and assistance inquiries on the reloop fora. The led feedback problem has been there with all mappings and with all firmware I've tried.

4-deck support has never been fully functional either. I've tried the now required Firmware 2.7 and 3.4 mapping (for the controller edition, the interface edition has a different Firmware) and it just isn't working properly at all.

I'll return it to the shop tomorrow and will buy a Vestax here I guess. I'm not amused. I was happy with what seemed a good deal, but that 'deal' wasted a good deal of my valuable time. What I truly can't understand is that, when you gave them this information already, they still act surprised and don't just say it's a known issue.

Cheers,
MCJ.

Just a quick update.

Still loving the controller. Its everything i could want and more!!!

Been looking into setting some hot cues etc and i was wondering if you knew whether i could also hook my Launchpad up to traktor to run alongside the RDJ2 to launch cues etc??

Sorry if this is a lame question.

Thanks

Glad to hear that it works as I thought it did, I am very tempted to buy but I may just hold of and get the S4 in a couple of months......

But I have a itch that needs scratching and some wonga burning a hole in my pocket

I would have thought Ean or the website would have done a review of it by now. The MusicaRadar review was pretty good 4 stars out of 5 I believe

Hey mate

In my limited usage to date (i intend on getting a bit more use out of it this weekend) i would say that you can most definitely use this as you would CDJ's or 1210's. In fact a close friend of mine used it last weekend exactly like you describe and he took to it instantly!!!

I'm not sure how well you can use tit for scratching but i only say that because i haven't tried and have no experience either so you would have to check that out for yourself.

I bought this for exactly the same reason and purpose as you have explained. Pull this out and put it on your PC desk and within seconds you'll be rocking!!!

I have been reading this thread as I am intrested in purchasing a RDDJ before the S4 comes out. I have been a house music DJ for nearly 20 years and graduated from Technics to CDJ's unitll my daughter came along and my deck room dissapeared two years ago. I personally know that Renaissance legend Ian Ossia loves the RDDJ2 and a few other well know jocks where going to get one or already have (until the S4 was announced)

Quick question

I mix on Pioneer CDJ's like I would mix using 1210's. E.G. I use the top part of the platter to find and release my cue point and then pitch bend by moving the side of platter either forwards and backwards (also I have been known to do the odd bit of scratching now and again)

Can I basically do the same using the reloop?

Also as somebody who's day job is in the software industry I would just like to put my two pennies worth regarding some of the issues listed on this thread.

All new products will have at least a couple of firmware updates to get them running correctly (remember when the PS3 came out). If you can always give it 6-9 months after release.

General rule of thumb is to get a dedicated sound card rather than use the onboard one. Also the reloop sound card is only 16bit - 48KHz so will defo not sound nearly as good as a NI Audio DJ card (this is also dependant on the sound system it is plugged into). However that does not excuse poor quality/faulty gear (this also includes buttons- faders)

It is specifically designed for Traktor (even though you can use it for other software if you so wish) so don't be surprised that it may be more difficult to get the thing running with other DJ software or find out infomation on how to

Things like mappings/community s/support should generally get better as more people use the product and any bugs/glitches get ironed out. Companies like Microsoft are exactly the same there may have been loads of people posting issues the company already knows about or already has a fix for (or in development). The problem is sometimes due to legal and commerical aspects communicating it publically can cause problems. However I would say that deleting posts and not responding is not the way to address this issues

Rember you get what you pay for... The reloop is approx

Excellent news mate
I assume youre using the onboard soundcard? Are you getting on ok with that too?

Did your friends take the controller seriously or believe it was a toy?
Personally, I believe its got a pretty professional finish, but its all in the eye of the beholder. I'd be interested to hear other peoples opinions on it.

Now along side your jockey, you'll soon find you need cue point shortcuts. My recommendation is a midi fighter. If thats too expensive, or you dont live in america, go with an akai LPD 8

ok so i took delivery on Thurs and my first impression is that i absolutely love it!! Been to a couple of house parties over the weekend and took the Digital Jockey with me and it rocked the place. i have a couple of friends who have been using CDJ's for years and are used to turning up at parties with 2x CDJ's, mixer, cables and CD wallets in 3 or 4 different bags. I showed up over the weekend with my Digital Jockey and Laptop all in one bag!!! They were amazed at how responsive it was as well. After adjusting the sensitivity of the jog wheels they are equal in my opinion to a CDJ.

I must admit that Traktor takes some getting used to and i am starting to compile a list of things that i just can not figure out but i'm sure that with time all will become clear.

I have quickly figured out some cool uses of the effects and the loop function works like a dream!!!

All in all i am in absolute awe of this controller and i just cant wait to learn more about it.

Have to say thanks to you both for your advice, its proven invaluable!!

first things first

give yourself a week to realise that lots of things a different with a computer DJ setup.

Some stuff you needed to do before, will become redundant
some new stuff will make you realise there's a whole new load of shit you can do.

it depends on your style

scratch
samples
2 deck
4 deck
FX

buy a A4 hardback notebook from tesco for 70p

and jot down all your thoughts as they happen

kind of things you like about traktor,
things you don't understand
new concepts

and allow all that to sink in

It sounds a bit patronising

but the computer DJ setup is a different beast bro

also check that decks.co.uk have included a free adapter. there's are quite good and don't fall off. Reloop don't include one.

I don't use the Power supply but I'd still make sure you get the adaptor from decks.co.uk

Yeah long story but to cut short i've cancelled the order and placed it (as you suggested) with decks.co.uk so looking forward to getting it a little sooner!!! fingers crossed.

How are you getting on with your mapping? what are you looking at changing?

Oh and have you upgraded Trakto LE to Traktor Pro? would you recommend this?

why west end DJ?

Sapphires do it with a bag or 20 voucher for shop or beat port?

ok just ordered the RDJ2 Interface Edition and i'm like a kid at christmas!!! only downer was that its not in stock until Friday!!! COME ON WESTEND DJ SORT YOUR STOCK OUT!!!

After using CDJ's for the past 7 years and 1210's for the 4 years prior to that i'm really looking forward to getting my hands on this controller!!

I will be back to let you know what i believe.

Any tips on usage or mappings would be eternally appreciated!!

Thanks
