Nice, im still undecided on what to do. i need to get out there and get it sanded whatever i decide, its just too cold at the moment. i hate leaving a project when im so close to finishing it

Looking great there Steeevo! my mate made one of these a few years ago for his setup near exactly like yours, he spents ages sanding and smoothing it down, got it sprayed professionally piano gloss black, looked amazing. but after a while small cracks began to show and chips (from too many parties). he Moved house then threw it away!
i would go with wood vaneer mate.

really believeing about a wood veneer finish now, instead of painting it in a high gloss finish.

any one no if you can sand the top surface of mdf. because where the legs meet the top there is an overhang and i need to sand it flush????
Of course you can sand it, start with a smaller grit to make it flush then sand it with a higher grit paper and keep going up with different grit paper till its smooth again.

Prime, paint, flat back with fine glass paper, paint again, flat- repeat until smooth...
Or a thin smear of polyester (Car Body) filler?

Why not laminate it? Pick up some veneers and glue them on. It saves you sanding, you can get many different types of wood, and personally, I believe dark stained wood looks better than dark painted. Veneer should be able to wrap those curved corners very well.

Ok. But when I sand it down ill be removing the smooth surface of the board and will be left with a fluffy mess which I got to paint?

You can, but dust mask up, the dust can be carcinogenic

there is defiantly an easier way to do the sides did you know that you can actually bend MDF really easily it could have saved you alot of weight... how are you planning on finishing it. Since its mdf if i were you, i would fill any seams and holes with a mdf wood filler and then get it automotive sprayed a cool colour and then high gloss clear coat... another thing you could have considered that is still an option is lower the center area a bit and drop in a sheet of plexiglass with cutouts for your mixers that way you dont damage the top areas where its just wood. theres a million things you could do with this set up...

If you want to get really fancy buy some muli-color led strips. cut 2 large rectangular holes in the sides of the legs. line the cut out holes with the led strips and wire them to a power plug. then make a lip on the inside of the rectangular cut outs and get 2 pieces of frosted acrylic. clear silicone the lip and insert the acrylic ... now your legs of the bench glow what ever colour you want and if you hook it up to an audio source it can pulse colours to the beat.

if you need a pic of my idea let me know

Don't believe I would want to make loads of these, it takes a long time to make cos I like to get things right. I have not used any nails, everything has been biscuit joined and glued. I didn't want to use nails/screws because then I would have had to fill the holes.

Nice.. very nice.

I see a lot of clamps... is it glued only (or are there nails)? Great bit of work... love to see projects go from idea to completion. Thx

This is what its going to look like when i fix the legs to the top

You could make two small slits in the top that can accept a DJ stand, I know an Odyssey stand would work if modified but honestly they're pretty horrible stands. Maybe mod a Crane or Uberstand if you have the $.

No? I love cycling in the traffic in London (and I don't wear a helmet)... it's great fun - nothing wakes you up in the morning like a bit of possible death. Crashed twice into cars recently, but someone up/down there must like me /
BTW: If I suddenly stop posting on these community s, you know why!

Meanwhile, back on topic...
Torx Connectiv - you could mount it on the top surface, or on the front (doesn't it have a couple of volume control thingies on it.. it isn't where you want the connectiv, but where those 2 knobs would best placed ergonomically... yes?)

Sweet job on the deckdesk(c). I was believeing 19" rackmount for the mixerfixer(c), as the maximum width of any mixer is 19"... just use blanking thingies for other size mixers.

I have just had a thought, because i am going to be using torq i need somewhere to mount the connectiv and laptop so i can change the input from vinyl to mp3's. ideas please???

Anyways back to the project in hand, having both legs made, pva glued and sanded. i start on building the top. some more photos of the tulip wood being glued and biscuit jointed to the 1" MDF top.

also routed out a hole to run the cables of the decks and mixer through. And if it all lines up they should run down the leg. i also need to cut a slot in the bottom of one leg so the cables can come out.

I believe downhill mountain biking is mental, you have to wear body armour haha. we left trafalgar square at 8am on a saturday morn so it wernt to busy, i wouldnt advise cycling through the city centre tho

Yup, me on the downhill rig, Orange Patriot +7 freeride...
Its a skills compensator really, if your brave enough to just let it do its thing it will find its own way down a mountain..

Here it is without an ugly git sitting astride it..
