Wow this looks promissing

http://www.allen-heath.com/uk/Produc...neK2&SubCatId=

So if you link two together with the ethernet cable through USB, will it 'merge' the soundcard so you have a 4 channel soundcard?

If it does then you could bring two to a gig, hook them together with ethernet and not need another audio interface and have a 4 channel soundcard. It kind of sucks they put one 1/8" on the front instead of having both outputs in the back. It makes it a little awkward if you wanted to run both outputs to separate channels on the mixer, now you have to run a cable to the front. Also remember you have the option to run each channel in traktor mono so you could use one of them as a 4 channel soundcard with a few adapters (like you would with an audio 2 or 4). Plus a lot of systems are mono anyway.

I really like the idea of having one or two of these with a DB2 or DB4 for a home setup then just take them to your gig with a laptop and you have an audio interface to use already in your controller with the house mixer.

I love the X1s but I might have to give them up for these, i would love to get my hands on one.

No play, no cue, no crossfader, no jogwheel, no pitch fader

I'm sold for sure!

indeed 4 buttons per channel (if u want to look at it that way) near the bottom that could be used for play/cue/sync or something. then a fader for each channel (which is what i didnt like about the X1). 3 sets of buttons and pots that could be used for kills + eq and buttons spare...

plus u have multiple layers and a shift button to add extra layer-ette-s with

as mypopinjay says... no real need for a cross fader anyway...

or just treat the controls in any which way u want. it's just midi... i love the unlabelled-ness of the whole thing, it can be anything u want it to be (well... within reasons )

edit: way OT but... just noticed in the exif of one of the K2 photos that it was taken with a canon 400d, which is one of the cameras i have. nice being able to combine both of my main geekeries together

Definitely. Or I wish they just had RCAs in the back in addition to an 1/8" in front on that channel. I really wish that it woud merge the soundcards if you connect two through Xlink but somehow I doubt it.

either way i'm sure that the style of caps isn't a nail in any coffin. i actually quite like them but would still prefer dj-mixer style ones. i'd probably change them to something else just for the sake of having coloured ones or something anyway

must admit i'd probably want to change those too, but i quite like changing pot covers etc on my mixers. seems to be one area that's often skimped on - and simple enough to fix yourself. i changed the pot covers on my lpd8+idj+djm101+hercmk2. fader caps tend to be much simpler to change.
I would put another caps too, for sure... Mixer caps looks more professional then these...

this would be a great backup controller for emergencies and also for some awome fun in the airplane for long flights! Just the macbook pro, this and a headphone = instant airplance 4 deck mixing fun

it does open up a much bigger market having a builtin soundcard probably and means it can be used as an add on to a more analogue setup.

i'm not complaining anyway as i've been believeing about buying a decent soundcard for a while now... i doubt it's half bad if coming from them.

true that i would trust a soundcard coming from allen and heith anytime heee. i mean it's a plus point i guess just take it as a audi2 dj with midi controls heh

had been believeing of picking up a X1 but soooo glad i didn't, esp as i need a soundcard and didnt need another tp2 license

xone fader caps can be easily swapped. even for the db4 mixer fader caps and knobs can easily removed and replaced. provided you find something of the same size which can be fitted like the stock fader caps and knobs

oddles of potential for sure, esp with the obvious (i hope) builtin layers. they have actually been doing their research on what people actually want - makes a nice change

i guess the k2 would be an open source controller in midi mode and as far as the x link goes it serves to control effects on the db4 and db2

It sounds like the "layers" are hardware modifiers like the hotcue or shift button on the X1, so these, combined with shift and other modifiers there is massive potential.

but then again i thought you said in a different thread that having cables and stuff is a fuss and another hardware or even with the x link is still a 'hassle' to bring. just my two cents worth of thoughts

I just got an X1 too. I'll probably use just this and the X1. K2 mapped as a 4/2deck mixer with midifighter style effects, and X1 as a normal effects controller.

Very nice solution as a small portable Traktor kit, indeed. Four tracks is really all that is needed and I could live without a crossfader. Sounds like the street price will be very good, too.

Well, there's me. So that's one. Hell, I've got 32/192 files too, but we have to crawl before we can walk, I suppose. Anyway, I'd absolutely prefer this multitasker to carrying around my laptop, the K2, some combination of my Maschine, monome, and Launchpad, plus yet another audio interface. And this combo device makes it less likely that I'll need to add a USB hub to the mix as well.

(Yes, I know Maschine downsamples everything anyway. Don't remind me.)
