but still i believe there is a big differnce when it comes to the crowds. in my city and in other spots i

Im not particularly knowledgable on all the subgenres but the above, i like. Kryptic Minds - Cant Sleep reminds me of Photek and the kinda stuff i used to many years ago.

Make of that what you will..?

+1,

The stuff Heavy Artillery Recordings / Ultragore is putting out these days, you wouldn't almost classify it as dubstep anymore, it's just too much brostep.
And when you hear the hipsters talking about the deeper/darker stuff, they all go like 'Mehhh, too slow for me..'

Back before I was big into electronic music I had the Distance - My Demons LP in my itunes library somehow (probably was pirating mass stuff back then) and loved it and saw the genre label as dubstep and remember believeing 'wtf is that?' Fast forward a couple years where I am exposed to dubstep and brostep and I remember looking at my itunes library when I searched dubstep and played the album and thought to myself "This doesn't sound anything like dubstep, it must be mislabeled" and I believe I changed the genre to electronica or something. No joke.

First of all , big ups for opening for Kryptic and for Truth in the future !
Yeah, i believe Dubstep in usa is getting too commercial, in Belgium it's somewhat still 'underground' with both mainstream and old school parties, UK is probably best to be for the parties

Its a dubstep thread with a picture of tweens with not much clothing on. Thats like a metaphor for skrillex.

Godwins Law of the Internet needs a second Law that applies to DJTechTools that all threads will eventually end up discussing Skrillex.

I agree, but you can't say that Skrillex is a bad producer.
On the other hand, his 'DJing' is a total sh*t
Johnetta Olewine
10.11.2011
I don't believe skrillex is a good producer. Its music by fucking numbers. Nothing new, nothing innovative, nothing risky. I also believe the whole "live" show he does is a horrible horrible fraudulent bunch of shit.

For a genre that was all about future beats with your kode 9's etc, the mainstream face of things is so far from its origins it isnt funny. BUT, there is always hope when there are producers like rustie and shackleton and on a more mainstream front, James Blake and SBTRKT making stellar music.
Joeann Ili
10.11.2011
Not that I particularly like Skrillex' style, he's still a good producer.

There are indeed a lot of dubstep producers unknown, but they sometimes have better tunes than most well-known producers around, you just have to look for em

Fair point. I don't particularly like Skrillex mainly cause his music is not to my taste in dubstep and a lot of where most of dubstep has gone with it's sound can be partially blamed on him. That said, I do respect his abilities as a producer. DJ? Not so much, the man can certainly run a crowd and keep them entertained but he doesn't mix very well. When you look at the music Skream was making versus the stuff he's making now it's easy to be disappointed by the drop in quality.

@Kyle_G: and what exactly is wrong with a bunch of guys having a good time by standing / sitting around and enjoying some quality music? Also in most places those pills are illegal. So, technically, that's just one of the things wrong with the cluster fuck.

I was about to dismiss this thread as another shippost soon-to-be-flamewar type thing, and then I saw this really interesting and valuable comment. It really is curious, especially in the EDM world. I know in the metalcore world, there is constant rivalry and bands always take stabs at eachother, sometimes jokingly and sometimes with real aggression, but it leads to a very dynamic environment. I would hate to be a big name in EDM if i was constrained by social/economic pressure, and wasn't able to say what I felt.
