Eh...not really. Vanguard is Digital Analogue Modeling Synth. It's got embedded oscillators and more control over certain things but less in others.

Nexus is a WaveTable Synth.

Very different approaches.

all these software developers cover the core of what you need. anything else out there is just for extra inspiration or a different way to create the same sounds you could make with the vsti's available from the companies jason listed.

some more great companies...

reFX

(their Vangaurd can makes some nasty bass)

everything I have listed are all reasonably priced which is great.
I do not see how this thread is becoming an ad space.
A request was placed for good VST/AU and it becomes fulfilled. I can sympathize that when looking for "good" plug-ins its easy to get bogged down with the vast amount of crap out there be it free of pay-for.

Itchy Synth VST Collection (PC Only)

Here is a collection made by a fellow on the dubstepcommunity .com site
They are memory hogs, but have some wicked sounds that can come of em if you bounce to audio lots.

I hate these threads because they tend to degrade into just big ad spaces...

HOWEVER, I will say I really love Nexus. It's probably one of the best wavetable synths out there. It's just bloody fantastic, and I doubt I have ever written a single track without it on there. The drawback is it's pretty expensive for a softsynth.
