Reply to producing. Should i start with easier genres?

Hey guys,

I am working hard on learning ableton as i really want to produce original tracks. I really enjoy agressive dubstep style electro but it seems extremely hard to make. Should I start with arguably easier genres such as minimal techno etc to learn in and outs of the sound design and the software and then get started on more complex sounding tracks; or should go straight for complex tracks and keep trying until i get it?

Any stories from your experience are welcome!
