Help with the pulsing led mod?
Help with the pulsing led mod? Posted on: 10.03.2012 by Antoine Longwell So, got my midifighter yesterday and immediately I tried a few ways to make the pulsating led look best. What I ended up doing was mounting the led on the bottom, bent down so it was very close to the bottom edge, then I took hot glue and put a 'bar' of glue along the bottom [not vertically bottom... bottom as in closest to the user] edge of the bottom plate before assembling it. It diffuses the led very well and gives it a pretty sweet look. My question is a little different though, the LED pulses OFF to the tempo. I don't want that. Is there any way I can map it so it's off all the time, but flashes on at the tempo? I read somewhere about someone mapping it to the beat phase monitor, but I can't find the led in the mapping list... Any help, guys? | |

Adolf Hit 19.03.2012 | @DJAuxilium Ill add this at some point in the future! |
Antoine Longwell 16.03.2012 | No such luck, Fatlimey - Tried reflashing the firmware. Still pulsing [off] with the tempo. Anyways - I like the idea of setting that led to a note so I can map it to the beat phase monitor of the focus deck - A lot of time, I'm switching up tempos while mixing, and the pulse led becomes out of sync. I have a key mapped on my keyboard to sync it again, so it's not a HUGE issue, but I liked the idea of the extra pulse so I can keep my eyes off my laptop. Also, I have that led set up so I get a really nice solid glow from under the fighter, so mapping the beat phase monitor to like.. the shift led has crossed my mind - I tried it, but it just doesn't quite cut it. Like I said, it's not a HUGE issue, but it's pretty much the last thing I could ask for on this amazing piece of kit. |

It's just that the biggest problem I have is realizing what deck is being controlled [with the IG/Deckalized mapping] because I try not to look at the laptop so much. So if there was a beat phase monitor mapping for that LED for the focus deck, that would benefit me so much. I'll definitely wait for the next firmware update, though. And I appreciate the hard work put into it thus far. Good job on that, man. Way beyond me! |
robert chanda 16.03.2012 | I believe DJAxillium is one of the few lucky people to have the 1.2(?) firmware we shipped for about half an afternoon before I noticed and fixed that bug. Reflash your MF to a newer firmware and the LED will flash ON during the first beat of a 4/4 bar. Wow, what are the chances of someone discovering that one! |
Adolf Hit 15.03.2012 | The MIDI clock uses special MIDI message, not a note or CC etc. The MF firmware looks for the clock message to control the led, for now there is no note available to control that LED. Ill def consider adding this next time I update the firmware for the MF classic |
Antoine Longwell 14.03.2012 | I understand that. I can get it to pulse OFF to the master clock signal, but the entire purpose of this thread is me trying to figure out if it's possible to get it to flash to the beat phase meter, or at the very least, flash ON with the master tempo. But I suppose that's impossible if it's not connected to any note. Probably something I'd have to go into the firmware to mess with - and I just don't have the ability to do that. |
Adolf Hit 14.03.2012 | It is actually not connected to any specific note, you will find that if you enable the clock out in Traktor it will start flashing to the tempo of the master clock. |
Antoine Longwell 14.03.2012 | Ideally - I want it to pulse ON at the beat phase monitor of the focus deck. I know how to map that to any of the OTHER leds, but I don't know what value the bottom led is |
Antoine Longwell 14.03.2012 | The bottom led is at a constant on state until I tell traktor to send the midi clock, then it flashes -off- at the beat. |
Leeanna Ayla 14.03.2012 | Does the LED on the bottom not flash to the beat when synced with the Clock? |
Antoine Longwell 14.03.2012 | Not a bad idea. I'll try it out toevening ! |
Randal Biza 14.03.2012 | This is a longshot but what if you ran a MIDI monitor app like this one http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/ and monitored the output MIDI from Traktor to the Midifighter in order to find the CC value going to the LED? Then you could set an output mapping and have control over the parameters. I'm skeptical but worth a shot? |
Antoine Longwell 13.03.2012 | I appreciate the input, guys. But let me clarify. I can get the mod led to pulse just fine like ean describes on his video, and like everyone else has gotten it to work. I even did a couple extra things to diffuse it a lot better. That's not the problem. The issue is that I want THAT led to pulse -on- with the beat phase monitor. If there's a midi value for that led like there is the rest of the leds, I can figure the rest out. I can map the top 16 leds to whatever no problem. It's just this one. |
Leeanna Ayla 13.03.2012 | Do you have midi clock set to send in preferences? Have you turned on the midi clock in the clock window in Traktor? It's the play/pause button in the window under FX panel 1 with the metronome. |
Antoine Longwell 13.03.2012 | Problem is - I can map the top 16 leds fine. I understand how that works, inverse and everything. However, what I'm trying to get the information on is the mod led. The one that sits on the little port right in the center of the PCB. The way to get it to pulse is send the midi clock to the midifighter. Is that something that has a midi value? Because I can't find it -anywhere-. |
Randal Biza 13.03.2012 | I replied on the Midi Fighter facebook page, but try checking the "Invert" box on the output mapping in Traktor that is sending the notes to your LED. |
Antoine Longwell 13.03.2012 | So.... is this an LED that can be mapped? Or no....? Come on, guys, this is the last thing I need for perfection. |
