How old are you? The great experiment to find out DJTT's age range :)

Hey guys,
Following on from Xone's beatmatching debate - I'm really interested to see what the age range of this community is. There aint gonna be no judging atall - dont worry, just be honest, and it'll be interesting to see what happens.

I'm going to put up another poll regarding people's experience in the industry, so if you could do that too, that would be awesome!

Also, you could comment about how long you've DJ'ed for and your age underneath, would be interesting to see.

Happy polling

I'd been wondering this.... Especially the amounts of time people have been DJing.
Affirmed sooooooooooo many of my suspicions about who in the community doesn't know WTF they're talking about, and who does. Any time someone sounds like they're full of shit, I'm just goinh to refer back to this thread and see how long they claimed they have been mixing. Although I'd like another poll about how long people have been DJing digitally vs in general.

transition from producing to DJing was a very slow gradual process... Started using Traktor in 2007, played my first gig after learning for about two years. Balls to the wall ever since.

44 years

Started Djing in 1993.

Got into dance music in 1987. Did the Ibiza, Boys Own, Full Circle thing.
Stopped around 1998 after all the places I had been going to started playing Trancey cheese.
Bought an S4 October '11 and have been loving many of the excellent tracks now available. Like to drop in some oldy house classics
but hopefully not the over played ones.

I'm 28, started to really give DJing a shot 2-3 years ago (actually bought my first belt-driven turntables in 2001, but didn't really do anything with them apart from a little scratching back then - same goes for producing, have only been toying with it on and off over the years, but made my first steps with Fruityloops back then)

Mixing since 2010. Started caring about the mixes in 2011.
I've played drums/percussion since 2004 (everything from timpani in an orchestra to tenors/quads in marching band). Also been playing guitar since 2004.
I believe the first artist to get me into house was either Deadmau5 or Justice.

Started in 1991, and played for almost 4 years during High School / College, then I got serious and got a (serious slash boring) job at a consulting firm, so I quit playing. Started DJ-ing again at age 28 when returning to university, when I needed extra cash. Been spinning since, great job, love the extra income

40 I was nuts over electro as a kid, Afrika Bambaata, Herbie Hancock, Dr. Dre's mixtapes, Kraftwerk and the like that would prompt someone to spin on their back on a cardboard box. I kind of strayed to glam rock, punk rock, then back as dance music had a revival in the early 90's with Future Sound of London and Dee-Lite and the like. I got taken to my first rave in '93 and dance music has consumed my major listening since, with Drum and Bass being the predominate genre from '97 or so. I started playing in '99 mostly downtempo and ambient, but gave it up a few years later as it was cost prohibitive, then a year ago so started again, playing mostly DnB and downtempo.

i did have some nitzer ebb but i wasn't listening to a lot of it. what really got me into electronic sounds was nine inch nails. i still remember buying broken and pretty hate machine back in 92 on cassette, from walmart and rocking it on my walkman. that dude kind of changed my life and really got me into music. i was about 12 or 13 at the time. shortly after that i got into stuff like skinny puppy, 16 volt, kmfdm, chemlab and other harder rock industrial sounds. i also remember discovering aphex twin around '93 and got into prodigy and some of that crossoverish electronic (like roni size) a couple years later. depeche mode was another big one for me and i loved violator and ultra.

once i listened to sasha and hybrid i really delved into the dancier electronic sounds and fell in love with tribal house and funky house right after that. plus a lot of downtempo acts on ninja tune and stuff like thievery corporation. even a lot of hip hop. i had a musical renaissance just before i decided to have a hand at djing. i realized that there is a limitless supply of great songs and artists spanning many genres, and it changed my life.

the first electronic dance release i got into was sasha's xpander shortly followed by hybrid's wide angle. it all blew up after that and i got into all types of electronic music. i was into electronic based rock and industrial for years before that though.

I am young, at 15. I admit it, and I don't have a lot of experience. I got into electronic last year when this heavy metal band called "Skrillex" started getting talked about a lot and never heard it. I quickly developed into liking house and electro house much more.

DJ'ing for about 6 months, "producing" for about 8. Haven't left my, well, dorm room for a show yet.
