Need Advice Choosing Setup!

So if spent hours amongst endless hours within the past week trying to figure out what controllers i want to use.

Im down to

two x1s

and i want to add an Ipad with the Traktor Dj App

I need advise on what Mixer i would need

Audio Interface i would need.

And Other Equipment I would need to Buy to get the setup going

If actually done something similar with the launchpad on ableton 8 using slice mode to chop up a song into 1/8 of a note and play each piece on the launchpad buttons. Pretty Sick to!

These seems to be like that but on steroids

10.04.2013		Hahahahaha this is an epic thread, when i was pm'ng you earlier I didn't know u we're literally just starting out buddy. Scrap everything I said, take the advice of most people on here and start simple. get either a mix track, a CMD4a, or an s4 and learn how to dj first. There's no use worrying about what to buy and how to hook it up if you don't even know how to dj yet. I'm starting out as well, but I researched hardcore and figured out how everything works before I bought stuff. I built my set up slowly, learned each piece of gear and all of its functions, realized what i needed/wanted next, and then got it. I got a mf3d on Craigslist for $75, a CMD DV1 for $50 on DJTT community , and my buddy heard I was djing and gave me his mix track ($100). I also have iPad running touch osc for fun but seriously it's starting to get gnarly with the slew of buttons knobs and options. Start small, learn the basics, then build up to your perfect set up. Stash your money and learn first.

What u should get:

Laptop/traktor
Mixtrack or cmd4a
Headphones
Good Music
Weed

10.04.2013		You DON'T need an IPAD in your dj setup. The iPad is a gimmick for dj's at the moment just get a controller with a built in audio interface and a laptop. Have you been djing for a long time.

10.04.2013		I really believe you're overwhelming yourself with all this gear . Just stick with one controller, you don't have to spend all your money at once.

And this is only FURTHER reinforcing my belief that you still don't know what the audio card is used for... The Studio4A already has a built in audio card.

If anybody wonders, you can beatmatch completely with out sync in Traktor. Great pitch fader in there!

differences and quality between software's.

Traktor - s4,x1
Serato Itch - Novation Twitch
Dekadance- CMD line

Any major differences

Just to clear up I would use Traktor Dj like a drum pad while in set

10.04.2013		My buddy has CDJ 2k nexus and a way deeper wallet then I do lol and I mess around on em all the time and don't have any issues with beat matching. The reason im selling my twitch is because I want jogs for jog fx and beat matching a lot quicker also 4 channels. I get exactly what your saying. All I was pointing out is I learned to beat match without jogs since the twitch was my first controller so it can be done

There are plenty of other solutions to trigger samples. Learn to walk before you run.

Can you beat match on cdjs? What if you get booked and the club won't let you hook up your own gear? Being able to use jogs is an essential tool IMO. I believe there are essential skills you should have in your arsenal in case any problem arises. That's just my opinion though.

hmmm i see

But i was believeing if thats the case i would just use the ipad only for freeze mode. and work on it from there

Why? There's absolutely no reason to do that. Traktor Pro is 4 channels. The output of the app won't be sync able and you can't beat match. It will be a mess. There aren't many djs in the world that can play 4 decks and make it sound good, with or without sync. You want a Ferrari and you can't even drive stick, bro.

In order to do that you'll need to sync MIDI clock from Traktor to an iPad...

I know its a two channel mixer. I want to run two decks on traktor pro with a controller/ and the other two decks on Traktor Dj using the ipad

10.04.2013		I'm not reading 5 pages of this thread to find out if this has been answered but what exactly is the purpose of trying to use traktor dj on ipad if you are going to be using real traktor?

Aside from not being able to be synced all ipad dj apps are kind of a gimmick and not good for much other than messing around.

I don't believe he understands what the app can actually do and how he would use it. He wants 4 channels. The app doesn't even support it. It seems like he wants to build around an app in its infancy. He's much better off getting the real thing on a budget laptop.

10.04.2013		I'd say get a second-hand S2 or a Mixtrack Pro. If you're learning now, you can't know what you'll need in the future and if/when you decide what you have isn't enough, you'll be able to resell it with a small loss and get exactly what you need. Currently, you don't know if you'll actually need 4 decks and you can use the launchpad for remix decks anyway.

For his purpose, that's not a great idea IMO. He can buy a laptop for the same price as an iPad that will run the real Traktor program.

Thats what if been debating for a long time now.

Im personally believeing im going to get the CMD PL-1 when that comes out for a jogwheels

I was checking out the Novation Twitch a few months ago. Whats the consensus on it? If it allows me to input an external instrument that's a plus. witch the s2 doesn't do
