Meeting your favorite DJ - Your reaction!
Meeting your favorite DJ - Your reaction! Posted on: 03.04.2013 by Jorge Furber Easter weekend here in Montreal means one thing to a lot of people including me: Bal en Blanc! It's the biggest rave we have and we get the biggest amount of great DJs in one weekend. This year, there was David Guetta, Calvin Harris (both not my thing but whatever), Armin van Buuren, Markus Shulz, Ferry Corsten, W&W, Nicole Moudaber and Dubfire to only name those guys.Well I got very lucky and while waiting for Nicole Moudaber's set to start, she came up to my friends and I and started talking to us (thank God we spotted where the DJ entrance to the booth was!!!!!). My reaction: I froze and it took me until my boyfriend mentioned me to get out of the astonishment and talk to her. I managed to get two sentences out: "I love what you do" and "You are my greatest inspiration as a starting DJ". So my question to you is, have you met your favorite DJ or DJ who inspires you the most and what was your reaction? If you haven't meet that person yet, who is it and how do you believe you would react? | |
Dorie Scelzo 05.04.2013 | I've been "lucky" to meet several big guys, mostly thanks to a press pass from DJF to UMF. But, really, my stories tend to be BAD. When I met Mr. C (at a local gig in Atlanta), I didn't recognize him at first because I'd only seen him in videos from the 80s. It was bad. I almost blew him off while I was talking to the girl who invited me out that evening (apparently one of his personal friends). It was her fault, though, she introduced him as "Richard" and I never imagined that some girl I lit a cigarette for in a bar would turn out to be personal friends with one of the guys that started Acid House. It's okay though, that evening ended at an after party in some guy's house. We laughed about the mix-up while I was trading bottle shots of my Stoli for Mr. C's Marlboro Lights. Also, not exactly a favorite, but I accidentally had Marcus Schultz take a picture of me & Armin backstage at Ultra a couple years ago. I didn't realize who he was until he went on stage. (which was why I was there |
Daniell Kosharek 05.04.2013 | I met Ean Golden about one year ago, on a two evening full of lessons and knowledge on a city next to mine (Balne |

I once had the opportunity to see him live and will have another one on the 14.06.2013 on friday in Frankfurt I also can win a facebookthingy, where the one with the most likes on his comment wins a meet & greet. This shall not be a post of begging for likes, but if you could spend some time in donating a like i would be very thankful. If you wanna help me out just like the comment of Semi Klai > https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f..._reply&theater I probably would die of an Heart Attack, if i should be one of the lucky winners |

Celestine Porebski 14.04.2013 | No "met your favourite DJ"-story here, but fits in nonetheless, I believe. Actually, I don't even know, if I have a favourite DJ. Probably not. Well, anyways, a couple month back I went to Berlin by train to attend a birthday party of friends. And turns out, I was sitting in someone elses reserved spot. Well, I said "no problem, I'll scooch over" and then spotted the vinyl flight case. We got talking about electronic music and DJing and stuff, and when he had to get off the train, I asked him, what his DJ name was. Well, turns out, he was a fairly well known German DJ (no namedropping here, I believe it's pointless). A month or so later he played in my city, the party was actually quite shitty (but whatthehell, that's what guestlist spots are for), so I brought him to a proper party afterwards. Met him once or twice since then and would almost consider him a mate now (and he probably would too). There's also another funny story, about another (at least regionally) well known DJ I met on the train. But let's keep that one for another time |
Dorie Scelzo 14.04.2013 | Random follow-up: I just found out I get to see Mr. C again, this time in London. I believe the club's claled Paramount. I doubt it'll be as awesome as that first time, though. |
Ara Tima 08.04.2013 | I've met quite a few, especially back in the day when I first turned 18 and tended to be a bit 'Exciteable'... There's some shocking photos of me and LTJ Bukem and Ferry Corsten somewhere out there... I can't imagine listening to either of them these days though.. Easily my favourites however would be sitting back shooting shit at an after party for hours with James Holden..He was easily the nicest bloke. I find the secret is to try avoid talking about music/DJing.... Or babysitting Petter for an arvo/evening after he missed his flight to Canberra.. |
Shawnta Chodos 06.04.2013 | So to answer the OP's question... I met Richard Vission back about 10 years ago and got my pic with him and even asked him to record the outgoing message on my Voicemail. He obliged and I kept that message on my phone for a year. I also met Magic Mike about 6 years ago after he threw down a killer old school booty/hip hop set here in Dallas. I emailed him about it and told him it inspired me to get back into DJing. He told me those words are a strong reason he keeps DJing and my words meant alot to him. He remembered me next time he was in town and it really spoke volumes about the guy and his character. Also met Egyptian Lover before he DJed a set and he was kick ass, super nice guy too. I know I met Simply Jeff once because I have his autograph on a CD cover but I cannot for the life of me remember it. I only remember him DJing his set and that was it. I am sure there are many others.... I am from the Old School so I am sure some of those guys yall might not have heard of. As for the question of who you would love to meet that you havent and how would you react. I would say DJ AM... As far as my reaction, I would probably drop dead from a heart attack because I saw a ghost! LOL... Yea, crude sense of humor but I thought it was funny... Seriously though, I used to rag on DJ AM until I took the time to really learn about him and listen to his sets and watch his videos. So Def would have loved to have met the guy or at least see him spin live! And Ean! Would love to stop by DJTT sometime when I make it to SF and meet the man himself! |
Alyse Chiong 06.04.2013 | My GF and I met Skream & Plastician durring SXSW, Plastician was incredibly nice and as soon as we walked up to him he introduced us to his wife and just asked us about where to go to eat or get this and that in Austin. Skream was super drunk (right before he gave CDJ's to the crowd) and kind of a pompous dick but was at least nice enough to let us take a pic with him, I just drunkenly slurred at him that I was excited to see him play a disco set and he scoffed and stumbled away with the boiler room "handler" I guess. |
Jorge Furber 06.04.2013 | Great stories guys! Keep them coming! On my side, after the Moudaber fuckup (it was one to me lol), I had the chance to meet Carlo Lio last evening . I went down to a club where he was mixing and he was hanging out not too far from me before his set. I totally refused to go say hi, because I didn't want to fuck this one up -__- I'm lame sometimes. Ohh well, I'll be practising my "Talk to DJs" skill before my next big evening out! |
Denita Gyorkos 06.04.2013 | I got to meet Above & Beyond, it's was brilliant! I was soo happy and their set was amazing! |

Dedra Kreinbring 05.04.2013 | I met Michael Kiwanuka. He did me a name drop. Not usually associated with prog house. |
Breanne Penge 05.04.2013 | ^^Man his older stuff was ace eh! He was over here in Vancouver years ago as well. I had a great evening with him over numerous beers. What stuff are you into these days then? * trying not to derail thread tho * |
Nia Amed 05.04.2013 | niiiice. Hex hasn't been the same since the split and the move away from that really clean super gated sound. |

Hipolito Scionti 04.04.2013 | When I used to promote an old skool evening
I met and hung out with all my old heroes. Slipmatt, Ellis dee, Dj rap (fit), ltj bukem (bit of a douche), Micky Finn, jumping jack frost... Ratpack played at my 30th birthday Im meeting rocky from x press 2 in a few weeks cause im booking him for a party... |
Ralph Alderette 04.04.2013 | Met Wolfgang Gartner at Coachella years back. He was super cool about me accidentally hugging him for a picture, then backing off and giving a thumbs-up for the camera (I was really messed up). Chilled with Skrillex for like 15 minutes after a show in Palm Springs at some shitty club that's closed down now, before he was really big. Super cool guy, ran into him again last week at a restaurant in Venice Beach. Chugged some Jack Daniels with Autoerotique. The guy from Aeroplane was tight, his girlfriend is hot. Of course Ean is super chill. All cool people, but have never ran into someone in the techno scene.. |

Richie was a little weird but i was to young and annoying he still is my number 1!!!!!!!! |
Augustine Mitzen 03.04.2013 | blowjob |
Dannie Dimora 03.04.2013 | Not dj-related, but the most genuine "famous" guy i ever met was Aaron Bruno of Awolnation. I showed up at a gig that was sold out months before with no tickets, people outside were actually searching for tickets, not selling them :P Anyways i got desperate and in the need of a toilet , so i went to the nearest restaurant i could find. Sat down, ate something, and overheard an english-speaking dude trying to explain to a chinese waiter what he wanted. Turned around to see aaron himself. He invited me over to his table, we had dinner together and chatted about music, exchanged emails and stuff. I paid dinner, he put me on the VIP list, so that was pretty much one of the happiest days of my life :P |
Annalisa Shogren 03.04.2013 | I've met DJ Hype, High Contrast, and Netsky (back when he wasn't a cheeseballl). DJ Hype I literally had seconds with, as did I with Netsky. High Contrast I spoke to for quite a while, but he was more interested in my friend who he later took home and fucked that evening . |
Lillia Datson 03.04.2013 | A friend and i unwittingly made the upstairs section of Amnesia in Ibiza last year to see Kill the Noise/Nero/Feed Me/Chase and Status. There were a lot of fairly reserved people up there (not looking like they came for the sweat box that is amnesia!) so that indicated we shouldn't of been there in the first place, but we though whatever, keep shtum and enjoy the aircon and the awesome view! Anyway, Nero finished their set and Chase and Status started up. We turned around and both of the blokes from Nero were there, with the lass who does the Vocals. Proper sound set of Fellas. Had a couple of beers with them and got back to jumping about. Cool story |
Renate Mayeur 03.04.2013 | I had to go recordshopping and had dinner with some of my favorite dj's (Todd Terje, Prins Thomas, Idjut Boys, Rebolledo, Strangefruit (from Mungolian Jetset)). It was fun! It was in the beginning kind of weird for me, because i didn't know what to say. But after a few minutes it sorted itself out, we just started talking about music and then we kept on talking about other things in life . And i met a lot of other national and international artists as well. On festivals, parties, concerts,... in the backstage. I'm very glad i had the opportunity to meet other dj's/producers. But it's easier to meet people when you're a promotor yourself. And I just talk with them like i talk with other people. |
