Deep House/Bass Music
Deep House/Bass Music Posted on: 01.02.2012 by Kelley Mendrick Just wanted to get a rough idea on what people's thoughts on deep house and bass music are? SBTRKT, Pearson Sound, Disclosure, Boddika, Blawan, Maya Jane Coles, Eats Everything, Julio Bashmore, Mosca, Catz n Dogz...Are these all artists popular with DJTT community members? I just wandered what the general feel for music here was! P.S if you are into this kind of music leave some feedback on my quick 15minute mix! Thanks http://soundcloud.com/tukker_uk/malfunctionbassmix Peace, tukker. | |

Anyone else heard of the 108-110bpm 'electro-dubstep' genre of MOOMBAHTON? |

Wanda Insel 03.02.2012 | Here are the links to those podcasts I was on about, definite UK Bass as I understand it just to clear up any confusion. I believe the term definitely acts as an umberella more than a specific genre hence the confusion: http://www.xlr8r.com/podcast/2012/01/lv - for LV http://www.xlr8r.com/podcast/2012/01/throwing-snow - for Throwing Snow, check his tune "Too Polite" on Local Action label, amazing!! http://www.xlr8r.com/podcast/2011/10/damu - For Damu. Also this to some extent is Bass but I would say there was a lot more there besides, amazing mix though anyway so needs a post!! http://www.xlr8r.com/podcast/2011/11/french-fries |

Their some of my personal fav's! I did a Deep House Mix just recently, seeing as the topic has several fans I'd love for you to have a listen. http://soundcloud.com/hammer/sixayem Did anyone here attend the NYD Hot Natured party at Pulse? Thoroughly enjoyed that! |
Juliette Vensel 03.02.2012 | Whatever they call it, I don't care... just keep bringin' it!!! Maya Jane Coles stuff just takes me back to a different time in House for me. David Alvarado's Maya Songs L.P. reminds me of this sound for some reason. Jimpster is quality as well as another Freerange Records artist Toni Lionni - his stuff is intriguing, just discovering him. Even some of Tribal UK's label early stuff... used to love that label. |
Johnetta Olewine 02.02.2012 | The english do love their fish and chips though. UK bass is everywhere. |

And if you click on the link it will bring you to songs with genres labeled with techno, house, hip-hop, and electronica. In my opinion this bass music is on a new tip. It is something different and refreshing. It does take from house, techno, r&b, uk garage, dubstep, juke, and probably other areas that I'm not even aware of. But the "problem" is that it doesn't really have a name. I haven't heard anyone from the scene that is actually making these tunes or a head of a label repping the artists actually put a name to it. Some people online (community s and blogs) call it UK Bass Music, some call it post-dubstep, and some call it future garage. But it really doesn't have an official name right now. |
Araceli Georgis 02.02.2012 | I agree there is two separate-ish genres here, though they are connected. The more bassy sound coming from the likes of Eats Everything is a more stripped down, bass driven sound that almost has some tribal genes. I believe some are even calling it UK Bass (unless this is another genre entirely which I've not delved into yet). Viadrina - Luna (Coat of Arms remix) came across this last week and really enjoying it Audiojack - Get Serious Diamond Lights - Happiness (Light Year & Strip Steve's Deep Fried remix) I've been just starting to try and explore this sound so thanks for the pointers in this thread. Deep House is definitely more laid back. I'm digging Motor City Drum Ensemble lately and Solomun is putting out some good stuff. This is the kind of Deep House I associate with that Maceo Plex kind of sound. And then there's even more laid back / spacey deep house which I can't provide too much insight into. The deep house thread on Erol Alkan community s is probably worth a check out (it's a long thread): http://www.erolalkan.co.uk/community /sho....php?tid=45737 |

Latina Samon 02.02.2012 | Have Tale of Us & Miguel Campbell been mentioned? As well as the Hot Natured label which tends to be deep house? Check out Solan too. EDIT: I've just signed up, and realised how much my name seems like the second coming of the mod above ^^ |
nayit ruiz jaramillo 02.02.2012 | Allsorts mate... i couldnt possibly say one genre. I DJ regular Top40 and Indie gigs buts thats a job. I dont particularly like all of that music but i do have wide knowledge of it especially indie as thats what i started DJing (post-punk kind of stuff) If im playing at a bar or when ive done festivals and i have a choice ill play Hiphop/funk/house/dubbydisco kinda stuff. I like some techno and minimal but im very picky. I like some Dubstep but im even more picky. I like some D&B but, yeah im picky. I love threads like this as it exposes me to music that i might not otherwise pick up on. And i definitely feel your desire to mix genres in your mix. I get easily bored of the same genre for an hour. I like changes in mood and depth and energy in a DJs mix. |

Kelley Mendrick 02.02.2012 | I haven't really seen them interchanged as much, I guess I used the name Bass music because in Maya Jane Coles, Eats Everything and Julio Bashmore's Radio 1s Essential mix, they use a lot of these 'bass' tracks within their deep house sets, guess i just kinda picked the idea up from there... Sorry to confuse things! |

Those of us into this kinda thing should try and organise some sort of evening , seeing as this isn't really in the mainstream and hard to find good evening s outside manc/bristol/sheffs/london etc |
Wanda Insel 02.02.2012 | There's definitely two genre's going on in this thread now!! |
Salvatore Husley 02.02.2012 | There isn't really a label on the type of music coming from this side of EDM. People have tried to pin it down but nothing has stuck. Most of the artists are coming from the dub step scene though. My favorite labels are: 502, Swamp81 (Vinyl Only), Numbers, Night Slugs, Hessle Audio, Lucky Me, Click Click Boom, Hotflush, Lobster Boy (only a couple of releases), Young Turks, Sounds Pellegrino Artists I've been enjoying: Objekt, Kingdom, Mele, Trusta, Fis-T, Two Inch Punch, Dark Star, Mensah, French Fries, A1 Bassline, Rustie, Joy Orbison, Mickey Pearce, Arp 101, Mosca, Jacques Greene, Zed Bias, Scuba, Jamie XX, Pangaea, New York Transit Authority, Teeth, Addison Groove, Boddika, Bok Bok, Bambounou, Manare, L-Vis 1990, Lil Silva, Lunice, Jam City, Redlight, Roska, Canblaster, Girl Unit, & Supra1. |
Stormy Tomasik 02.02.2012 | Oh and this is just begging to be played live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vD3gxHYaU18Oh and this |
Stormy Tomasik 02.02.2012 | Scubas adrenalin ep and martyn's ghost people cd is what really got me interested in the whole deep house vibe. There's a small scene where im from (tijuana) but its getting bigger by the minute. Maceo Plex was making a trip to baja in march but pushed it back to june, cant wait to see him live! |
Shala Busso 02.02.2012 | Labels: dirtybird, anabatic, pets, 2020vision, futureboogie Artists: BrEaCh, Eats Everything, Coat of Arms, Julio Bashmore, J Phlip, Worthy Any MJC remixes are golden, Eats everything/Coat of arms reworks are always a sure bet. |

Wanda Insel 02.02.2012 | @TKR - at 4.30 is the SBTRKT remix of Never Never by Little Dragon, BIG TUNE for me, rinsed it so much last year!! I'll let you know when we next have some openings, maybe March April if you're up for it, link me a longer mix on a PM or through Soundcloud and I'll check it out with the guys I run the evening
with and we'll let you know! All my playlists are on Soundcloud for anyone interested, new mix on the way now, you've all inspried me!! @Vermilion - We're at Sophbeck usually on KIng Street if you know if you know it? My mate has also just sorted another evening at Basement in the same vein. We usually have it on the second Friday of the month but if you are on Twitter we're @Skrabble_music and we're on FB too for updates. @Mostapha - as Vermilion says it's massive in the UK now and what he says on the influences is correct, people go from Dubby stuff right through to Grime and on to Footwork with Drum and Bass licks added, that's why I love it as there is so much scope for creativity that you don't get with general pigeon holing!! Some DJ's to check are people like: French Fries (love everything this guy touches) LV Damu Throwing Snow (big new comer for this year) Check out www.xlr8r.com - all of the people above have done podcasts for them and they're all amazing IMO!! Love the vibe peeps, let's keep it going!! |
