I read a thread recently over at the gearslutz community of this same topic. They all pretty much came to the conclusion that a usb 3.0 interface wouldn't technically offer anything more than a 2.0 interface. Crazy right? Some sort of techno mumbo jumbo says that although it's a faster connection it cannot offer a more higher quality sound, well at least in theory anyway. Plus there really isn't a need for it right I guess. I mean do we REALLY need it? I've been gettin by just fine.

As for a soundcard recommendation, I don't believe there are any interfaces specifically targeted toward a certain genre. Not sure how to go about that really. So any soundcard will do. You just need to decide how many ins & outs you need. Will you be recording any instruments or vocals? If so how many would you need mic'd up at the same time? How about hardware synths? 2 inputs would be nice so you could record them in stereo. I'd suggest you hit some online shops and check out the different interfaces they offer. Sweetwater has been good to me in the past and they got a pretty huge selection of music gear . I can't even begin to tell you how valuable a resource a catalog can be. When I was a teenager I would get that guitar center catalog every month and just read the description of every guitar, amp, and pedal that caught my eye. Then I discovered that youtube was more than just funny videos and started watching reviews. Then I hit the community s. Now I'm am an "expert"

Speaking of Apogee, doesn't the Symphony support USB 3.0?

I'm disappointed in you, the German standard is RME. Stereotype? Yes. Good Stereo type? Yes. check it out: http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_fireface_ucx.php

I can't quite tell if you're looking to record (and need preamps) or not. I have an Apogee Duet 2 that I really like.
