Vestax VCI-300 + Serato SCRATCH LIVE?
Posted on: 22.12.2009 by Renea Lungaro
I've been looking around for this answer and haven't seem to have found it. I am believeing about purchasing a Vestax VCI-300 and wanted to know if EVERYTHING on it would work with Serato Scratch Live if used with mini.Translator?

Let me know. Thanks in advance.

Well none of the DJs in I know/in my area even use Traktor. They mostly use Serato Scratch Live. I've never heard of Traktor until I search about DJ software. I don't like how Traktor looks, I feel like SSL has a better looking interface.

If anyone knows if this could happen, let me know and the steps of getting it done. Thanks in advance.

Larger jog wheels, sturdy hardware, and better look in comparison to the 100.

I want to know why you want to use SSL and not Itch? The whole point of the VCI-300 is that it is made specifically to control Serato Itch, and not SSL. It works 1-1 with the software and is very intuitive.

Now, with the VFX-1, it has become a very solid piece of gear . I believe you should really take a look at the software first, because there is no point of getting the Vci-300 if you want to use SSL.

And, although it is completely mappable to Traktor now, I would definately recommend the DJTT VCI-100 SE to control Traktor over the VCI-300.

I would say just give Itch a try. Look at some demo's online, youtube it. It's really not a bad program and will do all the functions you're looking for. The VCI-300 is made for Itch I would at least take a look at it.

to answer your second question, yes the vci-300 allows for cuing up a song on one deck with the other one playing. Just have the xfader closed or the line faders all the way down, select cuing on that deck and start cuing up your record. Just like cuing up on 2 tables and a mixer....

That's the part where you have your gear and software, read the manual, and set it up. Without knowing specifically what gear and programs you are using, we can't give direct instructions. But all programs, soundcards and controllers that are specifically for djing will feature a way to monitor one audio source while playing another to the room. The terms are headphone cueing or monitor cueing vs. the "program" (what the crowd hears).

Thanks, but you didn't really answer my 2nd question. I asked if there was a way to do that. If so, how is it done?

1)i believe it matches tracks tempo, but not "syncing" like other programs.

2)yes that's exactly how it works.

Okay. Thanks for the responses yall. I really appreciate it.

I also have a couple more questions.

1.) Is there Beat matching in Serato Itch?
2.) Is there a way to play a record on 1 deck out loud, but also listen to another record on the other deck in the headphones w/o disturbing the 1st deck's playback?

I'm about to start DJing, that's why I'm askng these questions.

to answer you're question, the vci-300 with the translator could be assigned to anything that midi can be assigned to in SSL. The jogwheels can't be midi mapped, that's something on serato's side. There is no internal mixer in SSL so would still need an external mixer.

about the other comments, isn't it funny to talk about making a midi controller send time code? I mean its a midi controller, have it send midi....

Ableton and Serato have anounced partnership. The rumors on the net point to an integration of the VCI-300 with Live. So, there will be some kind of timecode integrated into Ableton that will allow you to use the VCI-300 to control a VST imbedded in a track in live so you can DJ while taking advantage of all of Live's effects and also have other tracks playing audio or midi loops. There is supposed to be an anouncement in late January I believe. So, you might want to hold out and see exactly what they have planned. If this is true, the VCI-300 will become a VERY useful device.

No!

Scratch Live is a DVS and unlikely to ever do anything with a VCI-300. The VCI-300 is supposed to be used with Itch but can be mapped to other programs such as Traktor. Scratch Live and Itch work with each others cue points etc but that is it.

Why not use Itch? Itch is getting better and you cannot use the VFX1 with ScratchLive. I'm sure Serato made ScratchLive for just digital vinyl. You can't even use a different soundcard.

I'm not too sure but I believe SSL needs a DVS input to function...but don't take my word for it.
