Finally got my setup and booth finished.
Posted on: 21.12.2012 by Margaretta Hebenstreit
Hey guys
finally finished my booth and setup, so here you have it, from start to end:

started with an x1, audio 2 an some crappy wesc-headphones:

really had fun djing, decided to upgrade to an s4:

(speakers until then were some old ones from sony which i had for like 10 years)

got some hd 25s for christmas and bought some solid monitors and a midifighter pro (which i thought was awesome, but it really wasn't for what i was doing):

played around with this setup for a couple of months, decided that i wanted to keep going and buy some solid stuff which would last me for years. watched videos of richie hawtin and chris liebing and discovered trevor nygaard on youtube and decided to go for a modular setup with a standalone mixer. got myslef a xone:92 (best buy everrr!, worth every cent!) and a 2nd x1:
(pic fresh out the box, thats why nothing's connected)

bought a 2nd hand maschine and built a custom dj-booth with ikea parts.
Allen & Heath xone:92
2x Traktor Kontrol X1
Traktor Audio 10
NI Maschine
Traktor Pro 2.6
Macbook Pro 15"
2x KRK Rokit 5s

(sorry about the pictures being flipped, couldn't manage to upload them correctly somehow...)

UPDATE:
added some tech 1210s to my setup some time ago, they are mainly used to play vinyl, can't really integrate timecode into my style of mixing. so i either play vinyl only or with traktor controlled by the X1s.
current setup:
Allen & Heath xone:92
2x Traktor Kontrol X1
Traktor Audio 10
NI Maschine
2x Technics 1210 mk II
Traktor Pro 2.6
Macbook Pro 15"
2x KRK Rokit 5s

still trying to sell the MF Pro btw, so if you're interested, just pm me.
also, check out my latest mix if you like:

ps: sorry, i'm really too stupid to resize the pictures, would be nice if some mod could do that for me...

I can't decide yet, I'm waiting to see or hear something that would sway me in either direction. I'm used to Pioneer gear as its the mixer of choice in most of the venues I play at, but the 92, mmmmmmmm

And then most of the top techno/deep DJs all use a 92 as well... Ai decisions.....
Thanks mate!

Well what i can say as the main difference is that the pioneer has built in effects which you probably won't use when you use traktor. Also, the traktor effects can be used as post fader fx on the via send/return. The big plus for me on the xone is definitely the 4band eq, couldnt live without it anymore. And the xone filters sound much nicer.
Id go for a xone 92 over any pioneer mixer anytime!

the xone:92 does not have many midi-mappable buttons (i believe 4 and x-fader) and i don't use those as midi.

thanks for all your replies, i still really enjoy my setup and whenever i have to play on a pioneer mixer at the bar i play at i instantly miss the 4-band eq and the xones filter, so the xone really was the best buy ever.

even though i said i wouldn't need turntables i ended up adding a couple of tech 1210s some time ago, i got a killer deal here on djtt and could manage to ship them for free from the uk
i mainly added them to learn to mix on vinyl without any visual bpm, waveform etc and i have to say it's a lot of fun.
i also upgraded to traktor scratch pro. i don't find myself using timecode a lot but i definately enjoy spinning and practicing on vinyl from time to time.
the techs were really cheap compared to what you pay for them here in switzerland (i paid like 650$ and can easily sell the pair for 2000$ here, so it was a no brainer

my next step is going to be a custom-build wooden case which will contain my 2 X1s, my A10, usb-hub and cables, it will have about the same format as the mixer so when i play out i will only have to bring 1 box wich contains everything. got inspired by someone here on djtt who did the same with 2 X1s and an A8. will post pics about that as soon as i start working on it
here is my updated setup with the tech 1210s when i just set them up (will post better pics later):

mixing without jog wheels isnt that hard. just gotta map things to control tempo etc, and have fun with them faders loops and hot cues!

Actually im not that much into tts, i dont know how they could fit into my style of mixing (lots of loops and layering tracks) and the mk2 will probably be added if the prices drop

Standard-mapping with some small changes for some extra effects like echo freeze and the encoders for seeking through a track. One x1 controls 2 decks.
