It's baffling how many people seem to believe it's easier to start a new thread/post and wait for a response than to just use Google. |

GET TO KNOW PEOPLE WHO RAGE. Seriously, that's it. Nobody gives a fuck about your mix cd, how big your sound system is, etc. They just want someone they consider cool to come play songs that everyone knows. If you aren't in a fraternity, join one. You will instantly be DJ'ing their parties to 300+ people every Saturday.
Also, start a social network page based around your schools party scene. I currently have a "Confessions" page for my college that in reality has turned into the most ratchet social media page you will ever see. Just by using the page for promotions I have started DJ'ing full time, holding residencies at multiple evening
clubs near the campus simply because I am able to draw a massive crowd by running promo on the page.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any specific questions.
Nice advice, what's a fraternity though? and can I see this confessions page? |

If not, try to get in touch with people in frats, since they're the ones throwing the biggest parties anyway. They're usually so jacked about having a DJ at their party that they don't care how well you mix...true story.

With or without speakers, you can advertise your "sound system" by making a relationship with someone that rents out solid DJ audio gear
so you can hopefully get the same sound system for each gig you put on. Yeah, that cuts into your profits, but you know what also cuts into your cash? Buying the speakers for home use that you REALLY NEEDED after making an investment on some speakers that really didn't fit your needs.
And I don't know if you're going to do production or just want some decent speakers for home mixing, but I personally wouldn't gig with my home monitors as I use them for what little production I do. They're too important for me and it's quite likely that at some point, your speakers are going to get dinged up at a gig.
Just be patient dude and don't go out and buy stuff so you can gig. Work on getting the gig(s) first and see where you're at cash-wise, if you can get the speakers that will work best for you, and if not explore renting until you get the ching to buy the speakers you really need.
Cheers man, great bit of advice. |

Are you genre specific? Being so makes it a lot harder to get gigs. If you are genre specific, you have to get to know people in that scene or make beats. There really is no other way.

Will Spinello 14.10.2013 | Don't worry about it. We don't have Frat houses in Britain. I suppose the closest thing - and it's not really that close really - would be to do a party in someone's halls of residence. |

You don't have to start out by owning everything you need, work up the cash pool to buy what you really want instead of investing in something that may or may not be what you'll actually want in the long run.

Oh, no I'm using a Mixtrack Pro which includes DJ I/O sound card, I did put 2 Red/white RCA Cables in to both channels in to the DJ I/O and put them in to a mini-jack audio splitter which then got put in to a SteelSeries USB Soundcard which then led to my computer. I had 2 of these USB Soundcards, one for my subwoofer, and one for my decks. And of course I changed my settings in Virtual DJ. However, I later found out that it made no difference at all. So I decided to save a sound card for laptop use for when I listen to music on it in my lounge etc. |

Lillia Datson 07.10.2013 | I got a pair of 400w speakers and an amp from maplin for 350 squid and an sub from decks.co.uk for about 200 and thats does plenty fine for house parties and the like, plus you can fit it all in a car. I spose the dj'ing part will be down to your gift of the gab.
Bottom line will be if you can pitch up with the gear in one package then you're set. |
Alphonso Deitchman 07.10.2013 | I have this setup for home use at the moment:
http://www.superfi.co.uk/p-3250-whar...r-package.aspx
It puts out plenty of volume while sounding very clear and balanced. You'll need an amp for the two fullrange speakers though.
Have a look on Ebay or Gumtree for similar speakers as well as an amp from a reputable company. |
