Need an Extra Set tracklisting....need help ASAP!!
Posted on: 05.07.2012 by Foster Zien
hey guys...i have my first gig at a famous local club and i have spent months getting it. I dont have my own gear so i am using the club owned turntables. i am a complete newb/ beginner and i have been a bedroom DJ till now. I only play trance and progressive house & sometimes minimal. i have prepared 2 sets (1 hour each) for my gig. but now i have started to freak out that the people may not like my music. so i have decided to keep an extra set..just in case. so i need someone to suggest a decent track listing for my set (130 - 140 BPM). I need this a lot guys.. Please help me!!!!

Did you give the promoters mixtapes/etc? just play what your normally play, but i do believe youve shot yourself in the foot.

Bedroom DJ with no live skills going into a big club? lol.
didnt send a mixtape or anything.... the manager knew i was interested in this so he was inclined to give me a shot. He was also willing wo take the risk...dnt know what made him do that

Congrats on the successful gig and welcome to DJTT!

I apologize for the negativity, Sounds like you have a decent base of skills, and we all have to start somewhere.

The op did sound a bit noobish, maybe, we do see a fair amount of posts from guys who have only started learning for a few months and are trying to get club gigs long before they're ready. Glad to hear that you were ready for your chance at the club! Now you've popped your gig cherry you should feel much more confident next time.

I believe it's the asking for a complete set/track listing the day before a gig that's a bit unprofessional but that's just my professional opinion. My amateur opinion is totally different though.

guys i said i need new gear.. the one which i already have is damn old...and anyways my gig is over...i wont say it was a major success but i had a blast (didnt goof up anywhere ). here's the track list.

Chaz illegal drum intro
Orjan Nilsen - Between the rays (Original Mix Edit)
Omnia & IRA - The Fusion (Armin Van Buuren's Intro Edit)
W & W - Invasion (Chaz Mumbai Traffic intro Edit)
Orjan Nilsen - Magic
Orjan Nilsen - Amsterdam
Armin Van Buuren Presents Gaia - J'ai envie de toi
Armin Van Buuren & DJ Shah (Feat. Chris Jones) - Going wrong (Sean Tyas remix)
Mark Otten - Hyperfocus (Wezz Devall Remix) (Chaz Edit)
MaRLo - Megalodon
M 3-ox (Feat. Heidrun) - Beating Of my heart (Mattisse & Sadko Remix)
Ferry Corsten - Check It Out
Avicii Vs. Edward Maya (Feat. Vika Jigulina) - Stereo Levels (Chaz Mash up)
Dash Berlin & Above & Beyond (Feat. Emma Hewitt, Jonathan Mendolsohn & Richard Bedford) - Better Half Of Waiting To Disarm Your Sun & Moon (Chaz Lover's Cry Power mix - Outro Mix)

Not All tracks were in the same key...so used breakdowns for transitions...
my intro was damn long (around 4 mins) this helped me to relax a bit.

Thought that might help.
oh man, my narrowed down selections are 1000+ tracks from 30,000+ (that doesn't even take my vinyl library into consideration). i believe i have too much music and like too many genres...ah who am i kidding, i can never have too much music.

congrats on your first gig

these are pretty fundamental dj things (being able to read and play to a crowd, and selecting tunes). it might be worthwhile to seek out some mentoring from an experienced dj. and maybe even see if a friend (preferrably with some experience) can partner with you/back you up on this gig.

good luck!

I thought you said you have our own bedroom gear?

If you are freaking out this much about it, perhaps you are not ready to go live. If you spent months getting this gig, I would assume you did your homework on what is played there. So play that.

You can't really prepare a specific setlist for a situation like that because you have no idea how the crowd will react to your choice of music. Your best bet is to be really familiar with your genres of choice and be able to pick out the right tunes based on how the evening is going.
