I'm in contact with the Bitwig guys and girls. The first batch of invites was very small. They'd like to include more functions (like VST-support) before letting other people in. There will be more invite waves though.

I was overly excited when I recieved the email! And then it was just an announcement
Still very exciting though!

It looks almost exactly like Ableton, which would certainly make the transition easy if I switch over. Hopefully Bitwig is a lean and efficient daw from the ground up.
I hope one of us gets in the Beta testing phase!

If they were smart that's how they would do it- they need to develop a strong base and it would be foolish to price it around $500-$700 with live.

logic is (or was) $199 in the app store. If they price bitwig more around there they could do some damage.

Also I finally got a newsletter, but it looks like no invite.

New video looks quite promising. Hope it has decent external MIDI sync, otherwise it's useless for me on stage.

So, apparently they finally sent out the first beta invites. I got their newsletter (stating that beta testing has started) a wooping 3 times (to the same email), but no invite for me yet

Did anybody get lucky?

Exactly! How many 1.0 versions of any software have been released that have not had pretty big issues up until at least a 1.1 patch though

Beta testing like so many things depends on how we go about using things in our various ways, and judging from the screenshots there is a shitload of variations that can be made (more than Ableton by a longshot), chaining things, mapping things etc .. so I hope they get a wide and varied Beta Testing Team and not just people who use Ableton for production every day.

Of course maybe they are holding off for a merger from Ableton

Maybe we'll all be pleasantry surprised, but I'll let a few others take the reins before splashing out (unless of course I get a beta invite at which stage I'll test to hell).

especially if the Bitwig coders 'borrowed' some of the underlying code from Live when they left Ableton.... would be difficult for Ableton to prove and would make sense considering how close they look to each other...

Agrred - the browser SUCKS for DJ'ing. When will they add support for mp3 tags???

Agreed - it's like they stuck in a crossfader at V1, and thought "that'll keep the DJ's happy - no need to add proper DJ functionality..."

I fear you may have hit the nail directly on there head there, mate.

OR - the old Ableton dev crew are gonna take Bitwig in the direction that Live was always headed (an awesome, awesome, dedicated DAW), and the remaining Abe's change Live into the Serato/Traktor beating live performance tool that it should be*!!!

*The clue is in the name (Live!!!)

but still, these guys made an entire new daw from scratch that does way more in the past three years
That kinda scares me a little with regards to stability/bug testing.

It's not so much a rip off when the people behind bitwig are responsible for ableton as we know it. I see it more as they got frustrated with the company so they left and built the DAW that they really wanted to. Bitwig is really just the next evolution of live and unless something major changes over there I don't really see ableton moving forward since they lost their key developers. Ok ableton is just now adding 64 bit support but still, these guys made an entire new daw from scratch that does way more in the past three years and I'm not expecting ableton to go much further anytime soon.

Nothing. Invites would "go out in a few days" on June 21st. Seems they come out to announce beta is happening really soon every couple months then disappear.
