So up for discussion is the new genres in Beatport, and where do people like myself fall? Am I now considered "Hard Techno"... It would seem now I fall under there... ahhhhh WTF? Thanks for once again fncking up more sh!t now Beatport, you c_ck suckers! So what do all of you techno producers and followers believe? Should I now release in the "Hard Techno" genre? I mean, if I go under the "Hard Techno" genre a majority of it just sounds like regular old techno that I have been making and playing forever, with the exception of the Hardcore shit that is also lumped in there for god knows what reason... And have you read the sh!t about beatport's other new genres? These fncking handjobs over there have created a genre called "Romantic Techno".... WTF?

Seriously, i didnt know you made romantic techno? I have heard Hardcore tracks going all romantic during the break, Like Turn Around, and Aerosmith, etc.

Neat stuff Lance, but seriously. What did that rapper from Detriot say?

my personal distinction between techno and hard techno was mainly due to bpms. hard techno to me is this 140bpm+ stuff like hardstyle etc.

techno is more like house made by robots and what you consider hard is what i would call dark. just to keep the distinction.

I for one am pretty happy about the possibility of a separate drumstep section. right now half of it is under dubstep and the other half is under drum & bass, with no real criteria for determining which.

The Tommi Bass sub genre Hand Shandy is still the way to go after a bit of Romantic Techno of the wrist.

The genre Bangarang was created by Skrillex to bust out of the dubstep pigeon hole?

You guys are so Laser Funkin out of touch with what's going on in the real world. I mean genre's are so Complextro to begin with because we all know we shouldn't Drumstep to the same beat as everybody else. So Chillwave out and Juke to this Bass Music.

While you guys are bitching I'm going to stick my Moombahton up my wife's Psybreaks, but not before playing her a litte Romantic Techno though.

If Beatport does start including subgenre tags I just hope they DONT call it Future Jungle.

J-Tek or 140 Jungle Breaks deserves a tag. Trackitdown at leasts gives you the option of searching for subgenres. I find all the hottest 140Jungle Breaks on there.

Who picks what genre it goes into? The label? I've seen a few of the same tracks on different labels given a different genre.

I thought Complextro was pretty much Electro House?? But I can see moombahton being added but I dunno about the rest
Celine Surico

Complextro? Now I'm intrigued. Zappa-like dance music?

Bangarang and other 105-110 tracks will get the sub-genre treatment. When Bangarang came out Beatport was like "this isn't Moombahton, but it's not really Electro House either" so they tried to call it Dubstep. Now I see it's called Electro House.

Either way, it's dog shit.

Hah. Yeah I've seen beatport send emails like that out with hipster genre names and put together playlists linked in the email for said "genres". Just their marketing department trying to make money off djs who are always looking for the next trendy thing. I don't believe they are actually planning on making new genre categories for that stuff though.

I'm looking on beatport and genres look the same as before with "Hardcore / Hard Techno" being a genre. Is there something else they are rolling out?

Also how does it even work with releasing on beatport, can you pick the genre you want to be released under? From the way some things are sorted and all the mess ups it seemed like someone else was always assigning them. I would say keep releasing under just the techno genre- when I read "hard techno" I believe faster 135bpm+ stuff like hardcore and I wouldn't browse under that.
Ok, so the deal with beatport is you either go through a distributor, or have a direct account. I have a direct account. I pick the genre that stuff gets released, but they have been known in the past to switch genres on labels.

Okay so what I'm hearing here is, Beatport sucks. I'll take your guys' word for it. I'm looking for good places to find tunes. Today I discovered http://www.djtunes.com Is this a good one?

What are some other prime sites?

Quick question, Beatport says you might have to wait for some tracks to be available in AIFF. Is there actually much chance of this happening? Is there anything I should know about AIFF before I go for it over MP3?
