Laptops for Music software and DJ'ing
Posted on: 25.07.2012 by Bunny Collie
I'm looking for a Mid Ranged priced laptop for running DJ Equipment and software off.

Im running a setup using the machine and tracktor software and hardware, S4,X1 AND MACHINE MIKRO ( not the pioneer like in the video)

The Laptop in the video (Studio XPS) seems and sounds decent enough to run everything so what i am looking for is something similar or better for around

My recommended laptop brand, for best bang for your buck + solid build quality, is neither Acer nor Asus. Lenovo currently takes the cake in this regard. In my humble opinion..

even though i hate pc world they will order the laptops for me and i can pay in store as my card does not work online , if anyone else can find anything better your help is very much appreciated
Given those two choices, I would definitely go with the Asus.

1.) Low-end Acer laptops are notorious for sucking in a big way. Cheap build-quality, etc.

2.) The Asus has a significant step up in processing power.

3.) Although the Asus comes with less RAM, you can easily upgrade it. The inferior Core i5 in the Acer is there to stay. There's no upgrading that.

would it be better to run an i5 with 6 gb of ram or a i7 on 4 gbram ?
Surely you mean 8gb ram 6gb would leave you without dual channel ? and Ram does completely different tasks than CPU horsepower, memory intensive tasks such as file caching, load to ram and dont rely on CPU.

Either an i5 or i7 will run pretty much any application you throw at it.

And deffo would not buy ram as an upgrade direct from the computer manufacturer unless it was a bargain (+

Back OT though For a Windows laptop for music personally i'd only consider a Lenovo possibly Asus depending on the model, The Lenovo's are Not the prettiest of machines but they chug on for years and years.

I know there is a lot of gimps at pc world thats why ask on community s most of the time, im not looking for a pretty machine just something that i that can run smooth with no hiccups.

Any specific recommendations ? with decent ram 6gb +

whats the deal with i3, i5 and i7 is one better than the other , i stopped looking at specs of computer after vista came out so im not currently up to date.

The Acer in that comparison would likely be a better laptop for DJ'ing. Few programs are able to actually utilize four cores. In most cases, You're really better off with a dual core processor at a higher clock. I'd rather go with a Core 2 Duo Extreme at 3ghz over a low-end i7 any day.

Regardless, all the laptops you're looking at are consumer level laptops. They are built cheaply and have much higher failure rates than their corresponding business models - which is why I suggest to look around for a good used business notebook. And being consumer notebooks, they have low res screens, which is a bit of a deal killer for me. But any of the laptops that have been mentioned will run Traktor without a hitch.

Yea... typically, at this price point, solid build quality is a rarity. Kudos though for checking up on user reviews. That's the way to shop! Personally I wouldn't worry to much about RAM, since it's an easy upgrade. I'd probably base my decision on average positive user reviews.

Yeah as I'm saying I've been rocking this for 2 years with 8 gigs ram upgrade and CPU never get past to 10%

http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Ac...k.29489.0.html

So any i5 laptops with new ivy bridge processors should be fine.

And for that Asus, it is ugly as fuck it looks like you've borrowed it from your little sister.

Little know laptop brand Lenovo makes very solid laptops at a very affordable price. I would highly recommend checking them out.

You can upgrade the RAM later if you want and it's not really expensive... the CPU, well you're stuck with. I5 run perfectly though.

This. I have a T61, and its a tank. They have a magnesium roll cage built into the case, so they are strong. I dropped mine from waist height onto the floor, and nothing bad happened.

Has anyone used a macbook 4.1 with TSP2 or 2.5? You can get those relatively cheap as well.

From what I've experienced I would recommend more CPU power (25Ghz upward) and maybe 8 GB Ram if this is still affordable. Building in some SSD, at least for booting is also enhancing your system a lot but I assume this will not be possible with your budget.

I believe most of the current laptops above 500$ range will be enough for your needs in terms of traktor/s4/maschine etc. My current laptop which is an Acer, Core2Duo 2ghz, 4gb Ram etc still runs traktor without hiccups. I did gigs with it, and it never crashed on me. If you take good care of your laptop, I believe it won't cause you any problem.

Thats the way to go also get a solid state drive for your progs.......... strip down the o.s of all the excess windows crap you don't need....................................and you will then have a wonderful music machine. Its what I did and its fucking sweet!

Its cost me all in all with the mods 727 Euros.

For a simular spec Mac over here in Germany that would be double..... and I don't like macs. Sorry........ we cannot all like the same thing.

It is a music only machine never been anywhere near the internet........... so no virus ............. no problems at all.

It works like a chimp!

I have this laptop: Asus X53E http://www.comet.co.uk/p/Laptops/buy...-Laptop/779709 (Although mine only has a 320gb hard drive, this has a 500gb). Fantastic PC, i7 processor, decent amount of ram, stays cool, screen is good, highly recommended for
