HEADPHONES ADVICE : AKG Q701 vs BEATS EXEC.
Posted on: 17.10.2013 by Gwenda Busbey
Hey everybody,

I'm looking to get new headphones for studio and for DJing, and im hoping I can get away with using the same pair. I am currently using pioneer HDJ500 which obviously just don't cut it anymore.

Now, I am cheap and would rather spend my money on studio gear then headphones lol. SOOO I am looking at purchasing with my air miles. I saw that the AKG Q701 are now available, and I heard they have superb sound for the studio, however I have not heard if they are good to DJ with or not...

Also available is the Beats Executive, which from professionals I hear are not worth it. And I do not like having to carry batteries with me,

Looking to get some advise. Please help me

Another Fact:

It's almost impossible to find a pair of headphones that are good for DJing AND studio use.

Sorry, my post seemed a lot more dickish than it was supposed to. Apparently the little at the end wasn't enough. Always appreciate the input.

AKG makes great cans, and the 701's are pretty solid, especially considering the circumstances of you getting them. If you're paying with miles, go with the 701's and don't look back.

I'd stick with the HDJs.
So are HD-25's. Doesn't mean they can't insulate good enough to monitor with.

maybe ill just wait and hdj 2000 ... ... But i need to get a new computer for production before i spend that kinda money on headphones
Unsure on what headphones you had as there are about 7 different kinds of the 700 by sony. ranging from cheap and crappy, to the best headphones I have used so far. Rattled someone broke them at my last party.

thank you to the people who ACTUALLY ANSWERED MY QUESTION. I am low on the cash, I will continue to use my hdj500 for djing until i can spare the money for better Pioneer's. Might get the Q701 for studio, not sure yet.

HD 25s are closed back headphones, which is why they insulate well enough to monitor with. That is the very reason they are so successful.

If you're looking at Beats, why spend money on consumer cans when they make pro gear? The Mixrs and Pros are well made, comfortable (if a little heavy) and sound decent.

Also, I second the Urban Ears suggestion. Surprisingly good hardware.

Sony 7506 a very good headphone at a cheap price. They get good reviews all the way around. If you want to spend over a hundred I suggest doing your own homework or buying something middle of the road. I love my TMA-1s. But others don't.

this is also a good place to go if you want to nerd out about it...

Why dont your hdj500`s cut it anymore? They are the best compared to the other two choices you want.
