Keeping your kit clean.

I was wondering how people kit their DJ gear nice and Shiny? Obviously during gigs and what not, beer gets spilt (and contrary to the crane stand advert, i DO cry over spilt beer!) so how do you lot keep your gear fingerprint and dried beer free afterwards?

Another note, has DJ Techtools Considered a little Cleaning kit/maintenance kit for hardware? Kit well cared for lasts a lot longer after all!

beware of imitation Cyber Clean, thing does not lasts long sometimes it's just gets too slimy for a fresh one.

microfiber cloth before & after handling my stuff
and when not using i covered them using pillow case (which looks shabby considering the money invested in those gears, why not splurge a bit & protect them with style?)
hence i'm looking forward to invest in a decksaver mixer cover since it was sandwiched between 2 TTs that already has their own plastic cover.

It does work awesome on vinyl. I should post of picture of a before and after on the black pads of an MPD. The difference is amazing, makes it look like it just came out of the box. I use it on alot of my electronics including my cellphone and mp3 player. Gets the hard to reach spots. plus its reusable for a couple of months. no residue leftover. Highly recommended.

I believe you could get one really cheap. Just get a bit of black board and cut it into the right size. Use some glue and there it is the custom designed, perfectly fitting and clean looking decksaver I was believeing of building one for my S4 as the original one costs about 40 bucks. Quite expensive for a piece of plastic I guess...

Yup, I actually use a horsehair barber brush. I find less hairs falling out and the bristles are more forgiving to polished surfaces. Otherwise microfiber. Canned air sometimes but the bittering additive to keep huffers away from ruining their brains leaves a residue on rubberized knobs that in turn gets on my fingertips eventually make it to my mouth. Yuck.
I don not use window cleaner but an alcohol based wipe for spills and cough spots. I only clean my junk once a month...pillow cases to cover my gear when not in use.

I have found that keeping a towel on top of the gear when not in use helps keep the dust levels down. Having 3 deck savers would be a PITA to remove and put back every time I wanted to use my gear.

Micro Fiber Towels. Lifts dust and if machine washable. Can't go wrong. Great for computer screens too.

Word to the lint free cloth, but I just use a dry cotton wash cloth. I like my musical gear to have some character to it, a scratch or chip just makes it mine, but grime and abject filth is gross.

I use a paint brush to rid the dust then followed by a microfibre cloth and plexus spray. This shit is the best stuff I've laid hands on for cleaning plastics. http://www.plexusplasticcleaner.com/frames.html

I always cover my stuff w/ a blanket when I'm not using it, mainly because it's really hard to clean out dust when they get into the fader slots and the gear , but when I do need to clean the exterior, I just use damp/moist paper towels. Not sure if it's the best way, but it's been working for me

As I once declared about my BCR2000: My BCR2000 (The Creed of tekki)
This is my BCR.
There are many like it, but this one is mine!
My BCR is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life.

My BCR without me is useless. Without my BCR, I am useless.
I must use my BCR true.
I must mix better than my enemy who is trying to out mix me.
I must beat him before he beats me. I will...

My BCR and myself know that what counts in DJ-ing is not the music we play,
the noise of our soundcards, nor the mixes we make.
We know it is the hits caused by the shockwaves of atmosphere that count. We will hit...

My BCR is human, even as I, because it is my life.
Thus, I will learn it as a brother.
I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its midi cc, its knobs, its buttons, and its on the fly absolute to relative switching.
I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage.

I will keep my BCR clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready.
We will become part of each other. We will...
Before God I swear this creed.

My BCR and myself are the defenders of my music.
We are the masters of our enemy.
We are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until there is no enemy, but PEACE.
This of course goes for my S4 and MIDIfighter as well.

If you're cleaning plastic, plexiglass, or any other kind of polished, reflective surface, don't use wood-based rags such as paper towels or toilet paper. Even cotton will scratch.

Lint free cloth or microfiber is the only thing you should use on these types of surfaces.

Three words: Lint free cloth. If you have a macbook they come with one or you could pick one up from a sunglasses store like Sunglass Hut. These cloths are great at taking away dirt/grime while not scratching the item you're cleaning, like the screen on a MBP or your mixer. The cloths themselves are easy to clean as well.

I try to keep it clean using the vacuum cleaner. The problem is you have to be careful with cleaning glass or transparent glass plates as these tend to get scratched from cleaning. Better way would be using some microfiber cloth but this takes far too much time.

I have a problem with dust. After i unboxed my s2. It gets dusty. I just wipe it down with toilet paper. But that leaves like white fuzzys all over. Not sure how to clean it that well.
