The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?)
Posted on: 19.08.2008 by Random X
Every now and than, a musical genres foremost poet or pioneer will come forth claiming the style is dead.

We've already seen it in punk, hip hop, metal, rock and opera already.

Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade.

With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB.
Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!"

If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles?
No, kill your idols instead!
There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past.

How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep?
Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are.
There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing.

Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us.

Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996!

Haha its easier to read all 42 pages when you have been contributing since the beginning

Edit: make that 43 pages.

Are you a d&b addict or not? Read dammit, its only 42 pages long!

LOLz.

(That way I do have the feeling that my start post counts for something. )

If anyone here can produce something better than those four, than I'd be quite glad to rag on Pendulum too.

Without pendulum I don't believe I could have got my 'non-muso' friends to come and see people like: High Contrast, TC, Shy FX, Chase and Status etc.

I believe 'In Silico is bad' for the record though.

MMm when I first heard In Silico I was very disappointed, I loved (and still do) hold you colour.

It has grown on me slightly and a few tracks I really dig. It won't ever be a stand out album for me but props to em for doing their own thang.

I'm sure we have had this conversation about 20 pages back lol.

ok so pendulum, i bag on them all time, because i don't like them. but after actually listening to in silico i have discovered several things.

thing one-their vocalist sounds like shit, which is just my humble opinion but like, ew...

thing two-most of the album isn't worth mentioning

thing three-some of the songs on this album (very few tho, like two or so) are fucking epic and mindblowing
like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtbVdsYQ5FQ (i believe its the right one-could be wrong) much kudos for that lil numba

Well... At least I haven't seen any crap.
Quality above quantity for me.

That and ofcourse the birth of an awesome daughter in 2008 has changed some things for that year!

But if all goes well, some d&b parties up for 2009. (And I also hope for a DJ Krush gig! That would make the year for me!)

Nah midi I went to their sideshow at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney. There wasn't enough to make me wanna go to BDO and sideshows are better anyway. They played a longer set at the Sideshow
Adolf Hit

Was that at BDO?
Would have loved to catch them at the Ak show, but they where the only act that made me excited and friend was having a party at her beach house that weekend...

Caught The Prodigy on saturday evening in sydney. OMFG no one drops a show like them. Seriously one of a kind. Amazing set. My ears are still weird. It was sooo loud!

I don't believe I've ever sweat so much! Can't wait for the new album!!~~~

Liam dropped a few dubstep kinda half pace beats during a couple of break downs. Sounded amazing!

(yes I realise they are not dnb)

Rewind freqency depends on the DJ and/or genre and/or style and/or crowd and/or MC. So many variables imo its hard to say

I mean N-Type was rewinding every 2nd track and even did a double rewind. In saying that the crowd was fucking loving it and TBFH most of the tracks deserved to be rewound. N-Type is a dubstep selektah god.

Sometimes it gets annoying. Sometimes I want that second drop BAD. Tho IMO its better if its done infreqently as then it has more impact and makes the crowd go way more nut's

I saw Andy C just the otherevening (he comes to perth around this time every year) - there were less backspins this year which was certainly nice. Last year there were so many backspins that it got a bit annoying after a while :\
