Novation Twitch or Traktor S4

Which one would you buy if you can afford to buy either one. I'm leaning toward the Twitch because I'm not a big fan of jogwheels.

Your thoughts??

Recently got Twitch and trying to use it with my Traktor (Audio 8) vinyl timecode setup...would be curious how this setup can be achieved with routing, etc...

How exactly would that work? Do you mean with a built in Scratch Certified sound card or something?

I may be wrong, but it seems to me that right now Novation's more interested in the controller only end of the market. They've made the dicers, which are great for DVS users, but I don't believe they're interested in entering the digital club mixer market or anything like that.

I use the jogs on my VCI, and they're very good, and I've tried the S4 jogs, reloop jogs, various CDJs, trust me I know jog wheels.

But I started believeing about it. Given that I only really use them for pitch bending and scrubbing (and occasionally FX), which accounts for maybe 10-20s for each track, they take up a disproportionate amount of space on the face of my controller. Pretty much everything they do can be replicated with a good touch strip.

If you like jogs, I'm not hatin'. Jogs work well. But for me personally, the space can be better used.

What's this shit about jog wheels being the deciding factor? Come on guys...

2 deck? Twitch.
4 deck? S4.

Twitch looks very practical and creative. If it has good windows drivers and decent sound, I'll have one. Looks like just too much fun in a wonderfully simple, compact setup.

I'm wondering the reaction if you had to rock up at club with the Twitch instead of say an S4 or X1?

In the beginning people were looking at the S4 in clubs, but that has seemed to have calmed down a bit. X1's are pretty mainstream too.

If I get the Twitch nobody better give me funny looks when I plug it in for a club gig!

Anyway to use the twitch with dvs? im assuming the cross fader is shitty for scratching though.

I'm believeing the NI X1 might be quite a nice complimentary controller to the Twitch... would give you 4 hardware decks and still be cheaper than an S4 (assuming you already own Traktor).

The only downside to the twitch I'm seeing is the lack of use for my Midifighters. I would love to see a DJTT mapping for MFs inside the software.

the Twitch is metal.

Agree with you though I really do like metal controllers. I specifically hate shiny plastic which always looks cheap would much prefer a matte or satin finish.

How are the jogs on the S4 useless?!?! Perhaps maybe if you're just rinsing sync and not scratching, but they're far from useless and they can be mapped to effects... And they aren't even that bad for scratching, lets be honest.

Well you could but there wouldn't be any point, the twitch has its own built in hight quality sound card.

Hi, I've just bought my traktor Audio 2 (most because of free Traktor 2 software) and I want to upgrade my Dj gear...

I was wondering if i could combine my Audio 2 with Novation Twitch, which I really like. Do you know if it ia possible? Or could I use Twitch without any soundcard (I use my laptop - Asus with integrated soundcard....)

Thanks for replies ans sorry if i bother you, Im a beginner :-)

I would use Twitch as just a controller and use my trusty Audio8DJ for audio. The twitch only has one aux line in and no grounding post.

I believe you MIGHT have a better chance of running Serato timecode, but I would bet money not Traktor. I would bet money not Serato, just not as much.

Does anyone know if its possible to run timecode through the twitch, like people do on the s4 or will we all half to get audio 10's if we want to run timecode. Personaly i believe if the twitch can run timecode without an audio 10, then it beats the s4 hands down. Only problem would be dealing with 2 up-faders.....

I would already have done so if I weren't waiting for the full scoop from DJTT.

Yeah, really anticipating, been a fan of focusrite/novation products for a long time and their listed price (USD $499 street price) is really really really attractive, sometimes all you want is 2 decks in a small reliable little unit that you can bring and just jam anywhere - the whole concept and pricing of the novation twitch is just pure gold, as soon as i can pre-order one i will do so lol

I use the DJTT Midifighter with the 2 deck A/B mapping and it has the slicer function similar to what the Twitch videos are showing. There's no reason why there can't be a sweet mapping for Traktor and Twitch.

I believe the ribbon is a tidy solution, but if its meant fro scratching the got the orientation wrong. it seems to be for track searching and looping and in that sense they got it right.
the pitch knob does seem odd though, i'd have put a pitch button and used the ribbon to display and control it.

personally i find the S4 perfect for me (got one - love it!) - except for the non-replaceable xfaders and the size, the thought of having to send my S4 back to native instruments one day when the crossfader bleeds (and having to wait a few weeks for it - maybe more, as i am in singapore) is kinda scary

i read in the description that the xfaders in the twitch are replaceable? as in you can probably buy one from the novation shop and replace it yourself (cant confirm this but i seem to have read somewhere that the twitch has replaceable faders)

about the size the twitch seems perfect to carry around when you simply need two decks to jam, they seem to just go inside your laptop bag easily as opposed to the gigantic S4 (okay not so big as the pioneer controllers but still big haha)

i will still get the twitch for fun , perhaps to run Traktor when i dont feel like bringing my s4 around (which i dont like doing, due to its size and large footprint, pretty hard to find a space to put the s4 in booths!)

I believe the big factor here is the price, size and lack of jog wheels.

The interface looks a lot like an interface that i use with the ipad and touchosc.

I've never been that impressed with itch feature wise compared to traktor, until I saw this with itch 2. It's not going to make me switch permanently or anything, but it's enough for me to see the itch compatibility of the twitch as a real asset rather than irrelevant.
