How can I pick up a gig through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) Posted on: 04.08.2012 by Burl Kennick I am 14 and im yet to pick up DJ gig anywhere. I was wondering if there would be anyone good ways of letting people know that your up for a gig somewhere. The summer is coming to a end and Im pretty sure someone will throw a party soon. I really want to get a gig. That is my next step. I just need some tips. Thanks! DJUSAUSUpdate: Before you start reading through all the posts, just know that this has gotten off the topic of getting a gig through social networking. | |

Try to do a bit more then dubstep....once u have done a few hour long mixes, then people can analyze how well u peform in long periods of time. The reason u do this is because if the only mix u have is a dubstep mix, and if im not a big fan of dubstep, then im not gonna hire u for the evening ...but if i can c that ur capable of doing a genre that i enjoy for my party imma hire u. |

But practice your brains out for the next 4 years and by the time you are 18 you will be getting club gigs that are 21+ and you'll really start to make a name for yourself. put yourself out there. work hard. and please please please, dont give a second thought to what everyone believes about you. You might not get it now, but when youre in your 20s you wont give a rats ass about everyone believes besides employers/fans. /.02 |

Bunny Sockel 07.08.2012 | It could be better. But the real question is can you do recreate that or do something similiar live with a couple of hundre people in front of you while being under serious pressure |
Celine Surico 06.08.2012 | Use Mixcloud or Mixcrate instead. |
Burl Kennick 06.08.2012 | Yes I have one. I couldn't post the other due to Soundclouds copyright purposes http://www.youtube.com/user/DJUSAUS http://soundcloud.com/djusaus |
Lashawn Maycock 06.08.2012 | Ahhhh the halycon days of school Summer holidays... seems a long time ago now... OP: own party = it's obligatory to DJ at that surely?!! You can rock out your EDM to your hearts content then and looks uber cool too!!! |

DJ: Yes, what's the time and place. Promoter: 1111 Church Avenue, Oakhurst, start 10pm. DJ: Okey dokey. Somehow I believe this is utopian. Promoters don't pick up someone from a social site just because they claim they are DJs. I.e. you need a body of work, connections and proof that you do a good job. Start with body of work and connections. The rest will come from that. |
Bunny Sockel 05.08.2012 | DJUSAUS do you have any mixes on soundcloud or mixcloud that we could listen too |
Lawana Spratlen 05.08.2012 | Your 14, spend the next 4 years learning about and listening to good music before you even believe about gigs. |

I say, go back to your room to practice. When you are good enough for gigs, people will crowd around your window like rats to a flute. |
Roseanna Signorini 05.08.2012 | Being 14, the only parties that you will be able to DJ will be that of your friends or your parents friends, people you know. At your age and lack of experience, no one is going to just hire you because you say you are a DJ. I would try to find a local mobile DJ company and ask them if there is anything you could do to help them on gigs. I don't know what the work laws are in your area so you may or not be able to get a little pay but this will give you experience on handling parties and clients, know what to expect, and give you a little insight abuot how to properly handle DJing for a real client. You are only 14, you have plenty of time to get gigs, at this stage you should learn all you can about the DJ business. |

Hyacinth Sabulsky 05.08.2012 | +1 for scamo's reply. ask your friends if you can dj at one of their birthday parties or throw a house party with your friends. it doesn't have to be a rager, just a reason to get people together and make music part of the evening
. my first gig was a birthday party and i asked if i could dj for a half hour. my second was a bbq my friends threw after returning from a cross country trip. if you have other creative friends get them involved as well: live painters, people who like to make food, costumes, dance, whatever and you will build your own scene/community. then others who have similar interests will join up and it will grow and evolve and there will be more opportunities for performing. that's what's happening around here at least. (SF Bay Area). You've got plenty of time to grow as an artist. if you keep with it in ten years you won't have to worry about where the next gig will be. patience, young padwan... |
Rey Holubar 05.08.2012 | Where would you like to perform first? Have you had some thoughts about that? You said someone is bound to throw a party. Birthday party? House party? If you don't know anyone personally to ask them, if you can DJ at their party, then you've got to get other people in your area to know you. I believe SirReal's advice is pretty good. And BTW, you'll always have someone who will dislikes you and what you are trying to accomplish. If it is a very small group of people, just ignore them. If it is mostly everyone, quit DJing. scamo |
Bunny Sockel 05.08.2012 | Dude your 14 wait until your 18 before you even believe about getting gigs. I was djing minimal techno and playing gigs in clubs when I was 15-16 but only because of where I lived and the people I knew. |
Burl Kennick 04.08.2012 | Alright man. I actually get what your saying. I will believe about it dude. Thanks for taking the time to help me out man. I appreciate it |
Antonetta Wikel 04.08.2012 | So, you're supposed to sit back, do nothing and let everybody figure out that they should ask you to DJ their school party? Oh yeah, you're part of that generation where, in baseball, everybody get's to hit, get on base and score a point and every team gets a trophy at the end of the season. BRO, go out and MAKE IT HAPPEN!. When you get into the real world NOBODY is going to hand you a job and no one is "entitled" to be famous. |
