I need beta-testers...
Posted on: 29.08.2010 by Graham Frazier
I've got a little piece of software that i made, and i need just a few beta testers to make sure everything works right. The program is really simple, but can be a lot of help to lots and lots of people.

Requirements:
1. Must have a Window's computer. (The mac guys don't need this anyway)
2. Must have ANY version of traktor.
3. Must have a controller with LED feedback.
4. Be willing to waste a few minutes to help test this out.
5. Must not say anything until official release. (Hoping for a blog post)

The program is an .exe file made with MAX. Your beta will come as a zipped folder including: the program, and all support files for the standalone version of the max runtime. If you have Max 5 already that's nice, but since i wan't this to be available to everyone, i would like all testers to use the standalone version.

Anybody who is interested can simply respond with any questions. Or send me a PM. You could send me an e-mail, but i check this site more than my e-mail anyway.

Thank you very much.

Edit: This software requires Midi Yoke by Midi-OX, which is free and can be downloaded from here...

You might as well download it anyway, since it is extremely useful.

2. would that put my APC into 'Dumb Mode' as to do that you run ableton and close it again... i don't want that, i use the banks for different knob assignment in traktor.
What hotcue sound glitches are you talking about? I never experienced anything like that when I used my APC40 with Win 7 and TP2.

i've read through the entire thread & saw that you're also an ableton user. here's the issue i'm having (& you seem like the right person to ask)....

when in session view (with "session" selected on the LP), i want to be able to play the clips as if they were cue points... i'd basically cut up a file into many clips & then mash between em. the result is kinda crappy. it feels like there's some extra latency going on & it's not even consistent (so i guess we can refer to this as jitter). this problem disappears when i switch over to "user1" mode on the LP & manually MIDI-assign buttons to launch clips.

i've tried re-routing the LP through your program the way I've previously done with Traktor & have gotten it to work, but the result is the same: unpredictable, crappier latency than when launching clips through "user1"
First, thank you everybody for the kind words. I'm glad this program helped so many of you.

Breakbomb- Unfortunately i haven't really looked into fixing the "jitter" when using the Launchpad in Session mode. I just set mine up so i only use User 1 & 2.

But i have been doing something that i find interesting. User 1 controls ableton; then in User 2 i send everything through a MidiYoke to Traktor. Then at the push of a button i can jump back and forth between controlling each.

when i have 'Send Monitor State In' on any of the 8 hotcues on the matrix not in Dumb Mode the currently playing audio will jump every time the 'Send Monitor State In' triggers, it moves the audio on the beat grid and jumps both audio sides of the miixer if x-fade is in the middle when the button is released... no good for cueing tracks.

if you don't have the 'Send Monitor State In's' on each key then the lights go off when you push them and reset when u change decks

this prog fixes it

I am pleased to reply that ALL of my LED distortion issues have been resolved.

No distortion AT all (I have been listening to two tracks on a heavy low pass filter, so distortion is easier to hear).

Even "Send Monitor State" is working flawlessly across three seperate controllers...

So happy right meow.

so the program is working pretty good but there seems to be a few problems im having. the major one being the program doesnt seem to be able to handle the fact of two of the same midi controllers being used. im trying to use two nano kontrols along with my launchpad but evertime i try to run two in the program it automatically turns one off. any change of fixing this plz?

and a minor problem being when i load a saved file, it sometimes doesnt load and i have to do it twice.

otherwise this is an excellent software and commend you for making it! without it i would have been forced to spend over a $1000 on a new macbook. if your ever in the long beach, ca area i will def buy you several beers as well haha

Okay, after a day of headache, here is where I am at.

I can use MidiYoke to enable 1 Denon-DN-SC2000 along with my Kontrol X1, routed through two device menu's in your app.

My Kontrol X1 does not need a virtual midi cable at all to route through your app, I just set all four windows to "Kontrol - X1".

But if I do not also route my DN-SC2000 through your app, Traktor will not see it when your app is running.

I tried using the same method for the X1, to route withought a virtual midi cable, but it seems the Denon does not communicate in the same manner as the X1 (to be expected).

So I absolutly have to use a virtual midi cable to route my Denon through your app.

Although MidiYoke works perfectly at routing the Denons "ins" and "outs" through your app, and into Traktor, it bluescreens my x64 Win7 install CONSTANTLY, so I cannot use that.

There are two other programs that are specifically designed to be virtual midi cables for x64 environments that I found.

"LoopMIDI"

and...

"CopperLan"

Both of these programs allowed me to access multiple virtual midi connections and I used both of them (seperately installed of course) to attempt to route my Denon through the app.

Although both Traktor, and your App saw the virtual Midi connections that were offered by both programs, Traktor would not, no matter how hard I tried, recieve, or send anything to the Denon while routed through the afformentioned midi connection programs.

MidiYoke is the ONLY one that works with your App....

And it bluescreens me to death ):

The kicker is, I only need to run my X1 through your App.

There is not a single button, or LED on the Denon that causes any kind of distortion inside traktor.

It is only my kustom X1 .tsi, that uses "Send Monitor State" to refresh LED statuses witch I absolutly HAVE to have routed through your App.

.... and I do not need any virtual midi cables to route my X1.

If you could somehow get you App to route the X1 for one device, but also not deflect all the traffic from my Denon in the process...

Or perhaps download the two programs I mentioned above that are fully x64 stable and maybe see if you can do some tweaking to get them to route through your App properly?

This is truly amazing work man, and when I had it going with MidiYoke, and my crazy custom mapping, with perfect LED feedback acrost BOTH controllers, I almost creamed my pants.

And then my comp promptly blue-screened, so I then wissed my pants ):

...All humor aside, if you could help me work through this I would be immensly greatfull, and it would also assure compatibility across more platform types!

I have been trying to get this sorted out for the past couple of hours...

For the life of me I could not get 2 Denon DN-SC2000's to operate with your app.

It shows both of them in your device list, but even if I load two seperate TSI's in Traktor, one for each Denon, and give them unique Midi Yoke ports, I can only get one of them to recognize inside traktor.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes it's simple to setup.

No luck here with the BCD2000 unfortunately. To make the BCD2000s jogs work correctly with Traktor I use Bomes and a Maple Midi virtual cable, which might be causing a problem. Send monitor state was actually slightly worse for me with the fix and Midi Yolk in the chain.
I tried it with my iPad running Midi Touch and RTPmidi (wifi to midi tool that links with Bonjour) running on the PC, as I've started using it to replace the BCD recently and have been having problems with the LED outputs. Sadly it didn't fix the LED out problem or the send monitor state issue for me.
I believe it's probably an issue with the virtual midi cables in both cases tbh.
