Getting Xone 92 this week, right..
Getting Xone 92 this week, right.. Posted on: 06.03.2013 by Temple Cervelli I have Maschine and Traktor synced up. I use 2 Traktor decks for tracks, and the 3rd Traktor deck has Maschine routed via live input so that I can use my 2nd X1 for FX over Maschine, ICan't use 4th Traktor deck because my mixer only has 3 line inputs. Hence the Xone upgrade. I've watched Chris Liebings 'how I play' video. And I want to go the same way, Using the 92's 4 channels for 4 Traktor decks and then having Maschine connected through the mic or aux channel. And I will find out how to get the send and returns going so I will be able to apply some FX over Maschine, (I'm sure it's send/return with ableton somehow) So, if I do this, and undo having Maschine as a live input inside a Traktor deck, and just have it in a separate channel on my 92, will this effect my Traktor and Maschine sync? Will I have to re-set anything up or will this change not affect anything? | |
Patty Mcgilbra 08.03.2013 | that should work but you have to combine both soundcards which might introduce latency... for the moment you could do a compromise with what you have: 3 channels of traktor 1 channel for Maschine 1 send return loop that would be 5 out and 1 in, which the Audio 10 can handle and tbh that should be more than enough to get you confused for a few days So your routing would be as following: 3x RCA to Xone 92 for the Traktor decks 1x RCA to Xone 92 for the Maschine (on a normal channel and not the return!) Send 1 - 1/4" to RCA cable into the Audio 10 Return 1 - RCA - 1/4" cable back to the Xone 92 and then in Ableton you have to set up the channels to pick up the send and route it back the the return. Then you can send all three traktor decks and the Maschine into your Ableton FX loop with the Aux 1 knob on the top. |
Temple Cervelli 08.03.2013 | How about getting this. 2 in 2 out, ill just use 1 of the outs for adding ableton in, if I can just hook up 2 Soundcards instead. I could also use this Soundcard for when I'm at home studio with logic and hook it up to my monitors! Would this work? http://amazon.co.uk/dp/B000KUH012 EDIT: actually scrap that one, it hasn't got a monitor volume knob, so I won't go with that one. But you get my drift? |
Temple Cervelli 08.03.2013 | Hm, I've got rid of my decks so not going to be using jog wheels anymore, going to grid my tracks and just use my X1's! I'm wondering if I can just get a cheaper less output interface to hook it up to my audio 10, instead of having to fork out a grand+ for whole new interface.. |
Doreen Schurle 08.03.2013 | If you just need some extra low-latency stereo outs... Reloop Contour? 4 (technically 5, if you use the headphone output) stereo pairs. Would also give you a nice jogwheel which you'll be lacking with just the X1s and the 92, although I'm not sure if jogs are your thing. |
Temple Cervelli 08.03.2013 | Replying to all. @Volpe - right, I just have a late 2008 OSX 2.66GHz 10.6.8 MBP, I don't believe it's much of a beast lol, not sure how well it would handle it, I worry anyway about running Traktor, Maschine AND ableton all on one MacBook but this can be done. Even tho liebing is using 2, one for Traktor and the other MacBook for Masch and live. @JDFS - Hm, okay so, it can be one, (btw I love that hawtin picture ) But ohhhhh man more stuff to pay out for and blimey, just checked the Fireface UFX, |

Rochel Gleese 07.03.2013 | Yeah Xone K2s might be a great tip as you get awesome controllers and gain a couple more outputs. Problem is latency you create when aggregating soundcards in OSX, plus then you loose the ability for Scratch Kontrol. Probable something your not worried about with 4decks, Maschine and Ableton running! RME soundcard have some of the best latencies in the world. |
Basil Forshee 08.03.2013 | It can be done solely with one laptop, Richie Hawtin's done it and I've tried it too. But, like Volpe said, you'll need a soundcard with more than 5 stereo (10 mono) outputs. This is my preferred setup: Channels - description: 1 - Traktor Deck C 2 - Traktor Deck A 3 - Traktor Deck B 4 - Traktor Deck D MIC/RTN 1 - Send/Return for Ableton FX MIC/RTN 2 - Maschine output via Ableton for MIDI Sync and versatility It's an extreme technical setup to manage, but once you've it running, nothing beats it. An Audio 10 only has 5 outputs, so you must look further (read: more expensive). Richie Hawtin uses a RME Fireface UFX: As you can see, he utilizes every channel on the 92. So it can be done, but you need a big ass soundcard and 9/10 it's going to be a FireWire interface, so you must have a Mac. Edit: Depends on the type of laptop/PC you're using (Mac or Windows), in Mac OS X you can aggregrate different soundcards into one soundcard. My plan was to get 2 Audio 6 DJ's and make an Audio 12 out of them. Edit 2: If you take a Audio 10 for example, and two Xone K2's, you'd have 14 (!) mono outputs, which means a total of 7 stereo outputs. Must be sufficient . |
Margaretta Hebenstreit 07.03.2013 | Problem is not the inputs, its the lack of outputs... You have 5 outputs on your audio 10 but 6 inputs on your mixer, so you would need one more output to get ableton effects right on your mixer. What could be possible is running maschine and ableton seperately, not as plugins, and use the biult-in soundcard of your laptop for ableton purposes, use the headphone jack of you laptop as out and the mic jack as input. I guess your laptop has to be quite a beast to handle this but it should theoretically be possible. Ive never seen anyone try this and there might be a reason for that, but maybe you can get it running |
Temple Cervelli 07.03.2013 | Yes that is all u want to do, just have Maschine opened up as a Plugin, just like how liebing has done, but yeah he does have two laptops, meh. I was using timecode CDs with Traktor but I actually swapped my decks for the Xone 92 that I'm getting. So all the inputs at the back of the audio10 are free! I currently have Maschine connected from the audio 10 main out at the front, and into a channel of my DJM 500, but changing this because I'm going to use all 4 channels for Traktor decks, and I can connect main out audio 10 to L/M R return 1 or 2 of my 92. And that's fine for Maschine to run. So your saying I could also connect then audio10 main IN at the front to the 2nd L/M R return of the 92, and Then open up Maschine inside of ableton, and I could use ableton FX over maschine then ..? Id need to know what preferences/settings to do also, or wouldn't I have to change anything other than setting audio 10 as the Soundcard for live? If you are right, then I owe you one man, you have really explained it easily and I thought it'd be so much more difficult than this! Thanks man let me know! |

Pretty sure he uses to Audio8DJ so that they're buss powered of the laptops. But this will get you close. You can either sacrifice Ableton Live and just run Maschine standalone or host Maschine inside Ableton Live. I believe Maschine standalone will be tighter midi sync, but haven't tested it. You output your 4 decks out of the main connections on the back of A10 into 4 main mixer channels on Xone 92 Front output is for Maschine into the return of channel 1 of send/return on Xone 92. You then have spare inputs on Traktor depending if you are using them for vinyl/CDJ control input. So there's one input left on the front you could use this to input from the send of channel 2 of send/return on Xone92. This could then be routed back into Traktor or into Maschine. If you add Ableton into the equation you could swap the input/output that goes into Maschine and then you would host Maschine inside of Ableton as a VST. So you could then use Ableton FX as a send return from Traktor, but you can't have both an FX send/Return and Maschine on two separate channels of the send return. Or you could sacrifice a deck in Traktor. I believe this is right? What NI should do is make a Audio 12 DJ. And a six channel mixer like the z2 and call it the z6 Or maybe a 4 channel with faders and keep a special channel dedicated with Maschine and have a send return, so we could use it with Ableton |
Basil Forshee 07.03.2013 | Yes, Duck had to be On. That was the mistake I made too haha. It sounded like shit until Duck went on. |
Temple Cervelli 07.03.2013 | Nice one! It should be arriving today! But I haven't got any RCA to 1/4 cables :-( so going to have to wait until I get them before I can try Maschine out in it, uff. Lol |
Margaretta Hebenstreit 06.03.2013 | Yep both are okay. Just turn the channels to send/return with the button on top and put down the switch above the fader that says "duck" You can then control the volume with the fader and the gain/volume knob. |
Temple Cervelli 06.03.2013 | Hey Volpe. Okay so RCA > audio 10 main out to 1/4 > into the L/M - R of one of the return channels yeah? Return 1 or return 2 any one the two is okay yeah? And do you use the MIC volume knob to control the Maschine volume? Ah yeah I have been reading that thread as it goes, @Ashigari seems to have the knowledge about this, I'm going to read the thread again tomorrow when I have the 92 here with me! Thanks mate, I will let you know how it goes! |
Margaretta Hebenstreit 06.03.2013 | Hey mate got the same setup at home and i have the maschine connected to one of the return/mic channels (audio 10 main out with a normal chich cables and some adapter 1/4 adapters on it), i don't know how or if it will work if you connect it to the aux channel. to your questions regarding the send/return effects with ableton, check out this thread i opened when i got my new 92: http://community .djranking s.com/showthread.php?t=63919 you should find what you need there. |
Temple Cervelli 06.03.2013 | Okay cool yeah I followed a tutorial and got Traktor and Masc synced up. Okay you've answered greatly, I was also wondering how exactly I would connect the two together. I know there's only one 1/4 socket on the audio 10, that's the phones. So would I need 1x dual 1/4 TRS to dual RCA cable, going from the 'MAIN OUT'(RCA) of audio 10 and into either the AUX 1 L & R or AUX 2 L & R (1/4). And that's all I need to do to have Maschine audio come out by my mixer, adjusting the volume with the Aux volume knob.. (Ill do the aux way because I want to use all 4 channels for 4 Traktor decks atm). How exactly would I get the send and returns for ableton routed? I'm looking a picture of the mixer rear, And I can see 'RETURN 1' 'RETURN 2' both have 'L/M & R' 1/4 sockets. So what cables would I need and where exactly would I plug them in and out, for the ableton part. This is what I would have to do in order to use my plug ins in ableton over Maschine stuff right? Thank you mate |
Patty Mcgilbra 06.03.2013 | the sync should be the same assuming you sync'd maschine and traktor somehow in the first place, you only changed sound routing the MIDI clock should stay the same. I'd be more worried about the soundcard: 4x RCA outs for Traktor decks 1x 1/4 balanced or unbalanced stereo out for Maschine (balanced into aux return or unbalanced into one of the channels, losing a traktor deck) 1x Balanced stereo or mono in 1x Balanced stereo or mono out (send/return loop into ableton) edit: after checking the Xone accepts unbalanced as well as balanced so routing will be easier! |
