Just a rant. Costs of DJing.

About a year ago I put down $600 to get a Kontrol S2 when it first came out. As a retired DJ which focus was "bedroom DJing", it was a bit on the high side, but what the hell. Now a year out and I am jonsing for the feel of vinyl again, but damn it will cost a small fortune.

For starters trying to dig up SL1200s again is a challenge, at least to find quality units. $500-750 for a descent unit and hope you don't have to repair it.

Then if I were to switch over to SSL (from Traktor) I would need to get a SL2. $500 for that.

Dicers? $100 there

Finally a Rane DVS. TTM56 as a intro unit. $700-800 for that

Oh if I wanted to take it up a notch, bump up to The Bridge and Live. $550.

So my $600 investment from a year ago jumps up to a minimum of $2300, more realistically $3000.

Oh I need a loan.

I pay more for one rear motorcycle street tire than I do for one car tire. The motorcycle tire will only last 1/4 of the miles though. I don't even want to talk about dirt bikes.

I wouldn't say royalty free audio is gonna get you anywhere, but certainly buying Music is a Bucketload cheaper than Vinyl DJ'ing. but your right certainly about a free software, as a DVS Mixxx would cover 90% of A/B mixing setups.

At the OP you just seem to have "RGAS" if left unchecked you will always feel lacking.

Its not the cost of DJ'ing, its how much stuff you "want". You could easily have a sweet ass setup with oodles of control for around 1400 if you went with an S4 paired with S/H 1200's.

Djing is cheap compared to high level competitive paintball...$2000 for a set up plus another $3-400 in gear and then $100 on the cheap side per practice...then to play national tournaments its around $6-700 per person on a 7man team...hobbies can get expensive my man...

I'm a drummer for 5-6 years and I spent almost US$6.600. Aprox. US$8.000 considering money over time.

I'll stuck with my dj gear costing US$2.500,00 for 3 to 4 years. And I got some cash, unlike the drummer me.

Totally. When I used to race downhill mtb's it wasn't uncommon to transport three 10k plus downhill bikes in my 1984 Volvo wagon.

Weird that you would say this. My friends told me today that I had a problem when I said I'd rather buy CDJs than a car. =D

Get a pair of Stanton St150s. If you buy well you can get a PAIR, loaded, cheaper than a single 1200 and they are easily an equal to the 1200, if not better. Fuck the hater fanboys and save yourself some cash.
