DJTT Tips/Advice - Wedding Music
DJTT Tips/Advice - Wedding Music Posted on: 05.09.2012 by Lessie Becoats So I'm a groomsman in a wedding and I was asked by my friend to also DJ the wedding. The thing is, I've never been to a wedding before :O. I'm more of a club DJ that plays mostly house music. So I thought why not create a topic that helps everyone out, you never know if you'll be asked so why not have a step into the right direction.First and foremost - DO NOT FOLLOW songs listed here to a T. Ask the people who are getting married what kind music they want and do not want. As I find music and music is suggested (if you post try and post a youtube link also!) I will update this post The types of music for certain parts of the wedding Cocktail Dinner Queen - Crazy Little Thing Called Love Dance Time! Abba - Dancing Queen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y62OlGvC-bk | |

Lessie Becoats 19.09.2012 | Beatgrids for a lot of these older songs are all sorts of messed up |
Lessie Becoats 19.09.2012 | I need more classic rock, its a genre I don't listen too |

Elmira Billard 18.09.2012 | I did a wedding recently at the request of a good friend. Like you I'm straight up club DJ, and previously sneered mockingly at mere wedding DJ's! I have to tell you you will have a ball. People are well up for dancing and super responsive to you. Do a load of classics and drop a few of your own, it's a great opportunity for some unlikely mash ups too. Oh yeah, finish with New York, New York - full floor guaranteed. |
Lessie Becoats 18.09.2012 | I'm definitely not going to be a traditional wedding dj lol |
Lessie Becoats 18.09.2012 | Think when I start out I'm gonna play Back In Time and then drop Rock Around the Clock lol I gotta get the old people dancin! |
Erich Vallabhaneni 18.09.2012 | word, well if you play call me maybe, you should randomly drop a sick trap tune and get everyone grindin n' shit. haha |

Matt Kane 06.09.2012 | this! funny anecdote: i played this top40 evening in a big student club and at 3am (500 drunk peeps on the floor) there is this totally drunk guy coming at me demanding the mic to propose to his drunk gf. i was like: "fuck yeah! this is gonna be awsome!" so he grabs the mic and starts talking but you couldn |

Lessie Becoats 06.09.2012 | Lmfao I don't know why I find this song so funny |
Werner Bile 05.09.2012 | According to former wedding DJ and co-writer/creator of The Office, Stephen Merchant, this is the definitive track to play after dinner is over that's all I've got, I hate weddings. |
Elizabet Ramar 05.09.2012 | Well, I believe you'll find the 'Complete 21st century wedding DJ'guide most helpful. It contains playlists and purchase links. |
Lessie Becoats 05.09.2012 | This is perfect :O because I can't always be at my table since I am partaking |
Shonda Soulier 05.09.2012 | I ended up doing like 8 weddings this Summer. I created a playlist on Spotify for cocktail hour/dinner music that I would play on shuffle. Feel free to subscribe and use as your own. I try to keep it updated as best as I can. http://open.spotify.com/user/to0ntow...fLnu4mFd66Kizp I got lots of compliments on it. Also, when I DJ a wedding I tell the couple to download Spotify and start a collaborative playlist with me. They go through and add the songs they want and I go buy the ones I don't have. This is also helpful: http://www.candjentertainment.com/pd...00songlist.pdf I don't know who those guys are but their playlist is out there for all to see. |
Lessie Becoats 05.09.2012 | Good advice, something that is good background music, but people will recognize it. |
Larae Knifong 05.09.2012 | Look up a guy on YouTube, Peter Lee Johnson. He does violin covers of popular songs. I believe is appropriate for cocktails. If you donate to him he'll send you all the covers he's done. |
