who wants to make a super mix?

who wants to make a super mix?
Posted on: 07.07.2008 by david lalinde
ok guys, this idea is actually taken from some of the guys on the native instrument community s.....

this is epidemics idea...and thought it would be fun to try on here...

"an idea ive just thought of...
I remember a while ago I read somewhere about 2 djs putting a mix together but they were in different countries. What they did was one of them would mix a couple of tracks, save the file and send it to the other person, who would play the file and mix theirs into it and save the result. They would then send it back to the first dj. So they kept passing it backwards and forwards until they had a full mix.
nice idea.
I was believeing that with everyone on here using traktor then we all have the ability to easily record our mixes and instead of just passing between 2 DJs we can pass it round a whole group of us and see what we end up with.
The thing which will make it really interesting to listen to is that we all have very different musical tastes on this community so for example, my thoughts on what to put after a certain track will be very different to yours.

anyone interested in doing this?"

anyone down to get down?

well it doesnt matter what you use...just remember to PM the person below you with the link to the download....so they can work on it....also make sure to leave ample room at the end of your last song...maybe a 32 beat outro or something to make it easy to mix into..

yo Darrell hows it going?!

here the list so far

1) Wgdavis : electro house
2) Darrel: Bassline House
3) earl-panda : depends on the song played before
4) dvlsadvct : also depends on the track before; industrial/ebm/noise/breakbeat
5)?
etc...
10)

so darrel is goign to upload it somewhere at send the link to earl via Private message here on the community s...

Every DJ do two or three transitions. That's my two cents.

If that is done, I really almost don't care what style it is.

Than I will fit the slot right behind you!

Still wondering if I should be in...

1. Dont like the time limit thing,
2. Don't know if I have the time to handle the mix when time comes.

ok guys lets do this roster...if your interested please post your name in the numbered spots and the type of music you spin.....obviously the last track you play leave a considerable amount of leeway so the next person mixing can mess with it...

1) Wgdavis : electro house
2) add name here and recopy to this thread..along with music style...i will start right now...and then the next person to reply i will PM the hotshare info so you can dl the MP3 @ 320 and then start your part of it hope this goes well!

Cool stuff guys, cant wait to see what comes out of this
I believe people would find it useful if everyone was to share the key of the song they last mixed if possible.

Yeha, count me in. If we got 10 people, then ~6 minutes each, with some give or take, will put us a bit over an hour after all is said and done.

Also, if you're going to use a track that takes 4 minutes to get started then mix it so for those 4 minutes it's building under the last song.
Anushka jayamaha
07.07.2008
so we need 4 more

Well don't use those tracks then, dude. The way to get creative is to change the way you usually work, try something new, work within the parameters of the game, get out of your comfort zone and see what happens.

That's why it's called a challenge!

Nah.. just settle on 2 or 3 numbers max.

most songs are about 4 minutes each....well looking at my collection...what would you guys like to do??

would you guys like to try and keep each "set" under a certain time?

I believe 6minutes + with a good lead out for the next guy would be fine .

07.07.2008
Wait a sec... are we doing 6 minutes total? I mean, how about two/three songs or 7 or 8 minutes total or something? If we're doing 6 minutes AND we leave our last song to the end it'll be more than 6 minutes. Just want to be clear.
david lalinde
07.07.2008
So so far we got...

1)wgdavis -- ( electro, breaks...etc)
2)fatlemon
3)dvls
4)alim
5)darrel
6)?
7)?
8)?
9)?

what up everyone...ehatup DvS...hey how is it going on the native end on sending tracks back and forth...

i figured since most of us use traktor...we can just use the built in recorder to record the track...then maybe compress it to mp3 and then upload it to like a hotshare...then we just dl it then add our 6 minutes....then reupload to hotshare again...and then just keep doing this until its all done....

what do you all believe>?
Anushka jayamaha

we can have this done by 12 AM Philly time

Me! Me! We need some rules:

  1. You get 6 minutes precisely.
  2. Your last track has to run out to the end, leaving enough of a tail for the next person to mix into.
  3. All tracks before your slot are untouchable - show some respect.
  4. Bring your best moves, and that includes making the mix seamless - no just slamming over from a Deep House track to some Gabba. Extra bonus for musicality and creativity.
david lalinde
07.07.2008
By the way ...

I am interested! this should only be limited to around 8-10 people...as each timeslot you woudl get would be around 6 minutes...making an hour long mix....

doesnt matter what kind of styles of music you play...thats what would make this fun and interesting...
