Next couple of months I intend picking up a few vst's for Ableton, looking for a good all in one synth EG Albino 3 and also going to be picking up a minomoog already set my mine on the GForce Minimonsta, so is there anything else people could recommend which they believe is pretty decent, mainly working on Deep and Tech house for now ;-)

though, i would recommend just buying a good qulaity cheapie and practice all the basics on that (with synths) and use the on board process effects on your DAW to start with to get the feel... if you got logic, youve got osme of the best processes you could use! ableton is good as well!
got Ableton 8 and the only thing I have purchased is Minimosta as it was cheap! and a keyboard to mess around with, so far having lots of fun just pissing around, plus a few tips from producer friends on building drum patterns.

No prob, a few of the Top ten have already been mentioned in here (ie Massive, Albino)

Massive really is one you should get into. Once you get a hang of it the sounds you can produce are beyond amazing. FM8 is another one I like as well.

besides that try looking at "ARTURIA V COLLECTION" or "ARTURIA Analog Factory" which is a nice cheaper little package which comes with its own midi controler some of sounds on it are great others are hit and miss to be honest but still a great buy
I am running this all on a year old macbook pro so hopefully it holds up, eventually going to move to a straight up imac

will check those out.

Albino is pretty sweet too.

Though really i would say dont go out and buy a ton of synths at once, pick one, buy it, learn it inside out then when your ready to move on grab another.

Cant go wrong with starting with Massive though
that's how I am believeing as i doing the teach yourself when I have time method along with a few videos friends have made me and general youtube, so buying anything apart from what I have currently is going to be seriously looked into first, I will most definitely be getting a moog vst as i love that sound for deep house, as for synth going to mess around with all of them..

cheers for the replies gents very helpful

Today, I discovered a 'string' VST (free!) called 'DSK Strings', can be downloaded HERE. Sorry if you were not looking for free VSTs but I guess some money saving can't hurt, right?
Free is always nice as long as i can use it on the mac

will check out the nexus as well, I am currently on a test first buy later only after trying it out for a few weeks as it's not cheap buying these things lol.

VSTi - Kontakt! Closest to analog sound you will get. Pick your libraries wisely...

VST - Nebula - by far the best for eq, tube pres, and tape but a little buggy for live use but for production....forgetaboutit!
Sony Oxfords - Limiter and Inflator rock
Stillwell - Everything
Ohm - everything

Maybe ive said too much...lol

I recommend looking into:

Sylenth - All around stellar synth
Waldorf Largo - Great VST if you don't want to buy a proper virtual analog synth

In my opinion, the most important thing above all is to learn each VST inside and out before you learn another. It might seem tedious, but you'll waste a hell of a lot of time fumbling around if you don't dedicate the time to learn.

PS: MiniMonsta rocks!
