white noise sound
Posted on: 24.09.2009 by Lamonica Rockholt
ok, so i fiddled around with this vst called ymVST to create a white noise sound, but i'm not happy with it.

i want a more clear one like the one in dubfire tracks or like in flonko by angello.
what do you i need for such a sound?

I just got Ableton and I was wondering is there a link to get this generator/sound.

Thanks in advanced.

have to agree there, all the white noise generators sound the same to me, very noisy and white haha

Its the post processing that makes the difference in my experience, i personally like the one in massive because massive makes it really easy to do some quick with its tasty filters, fx and modulation options.

I use Traktor scratch and get the best white noise during my sets using the reverb. I basically set the wet/dry knob in 0. And the 3 others half way then cut the bass from the track, turn the effect on and start increasing the wet dry, the for the final scream move the last knob (size) from the mid position to almost full twist... and boom turn off the effect and pump the bass again. Its like making your own buildup during your track.

I just uploaded a set where i do this example, I did not go full way with the size knob though, that dramatically increase the white noise sound. But anyways its on the break around 4:00. I am sure you can use the same technique on TP

hey

yeah while 'noise' has recently came in to vogue for production and use in tracks, most of the time its used in its pink and white flavours for setting up sound systems and making various measurements of setups and speakers, eqing rooms etc etc. White noise is equal energy per frequency and pink equal energy per octave (and hence sounds "duller" as the higher octaves cover a wider range of frequencies and hence there is less energy per frequency up there).

Most production programs will have a noise generator that is designed for playing samples when setting up or equing the system so you should be able to get it there, and you'll also get it if you also download any of the system Test CD's that have lots of frequency sweeps and bleeps and stuff on them again designed for testing and setting up systems. (but remember to try and download a full uncompressed Wave version as one thats ripped to MP3 will, by its nature, be missing a lot of the frequencies due to the compression.)

Noise is a many coloured thing! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colors_of_noise I used to play around with a Putney (VCS3 - the synth Eno used in Roxy music) - had a lot of fun with noise generators and amp/filter envelopes and modulation.

To get the sound you need you have to layout some long lush reverb on top, but first of all make sure you use a stong High-Pass filter.. you can easily kill anything bellow 500-600Hz (also cleans it up so you have space 4 ya bass, and will make it sound crisper)...
I believe although I'm not really a follower that he also uses a lot of sidechain .. and maybe some wacky long delays (ohmboys aka ohm force plug ins or the logic Delay designer which I'm quite sure is waht he uses) .. careful with this or you might end up with a lot of phasing/ flanging.

yeah i will get massive soon, so i will test that than. thanks!

btw, white noise is one of the best things to get this moment every producer is searching for imo. at least in tech house/house/ehouse

White noise means power at (nearly) all frequencies right?

because it would seem strange that one 'white noise' can actually sound different than another..

You can create 'white' noise in FL Studio with the 3x osc setting one of the oscillators to noise and turning the other two volumes down..

I use NI Massive as a white noise generator - creates pretty tasty white noise to my ears !

Who would have thought that white noise could be so useful !
