Production set up
Production set up Posted on: 02.06.2010 by Gregory Finely Right a few questions, I curretly have a Xone 4D which allows me to run my 1210's and traktor and i have my powered monitors via it, and a i run ableton on my laptop using a novation compact 49 sl for keyboard, going to sell my Xone 1D to cover anything else I fancy and currently that's an APC 40 by the looks of it, really want something purely for controlling Ableton as the mixing side if covered perfectly with the Xone 4D so would you reckon the APC 40 would be a good addition if i am only going to be using it solely for production rather than anything else? | |

Laurel Litchko 02.06.2010 | we have a very similar setup! or at least we will in a few days lol. i just ordered my 4d, should be here tomorrow! i have an akai 49key keyboard and the apc for producing. it is great for arranging all of your clips after producing and i even dj with it (electro/indie dance). i put the genre because a lot of people i have met believe that ableton djs are mostly minimal djs lol. the apc 40 would be a great addition! if you use some of the Native control templates, you can get a lot more out of it--they are well worth it. i believe there is one that supports drum racks. on the other hand, the apc is mostly just a clip launcher. i dont believe the faders work well enough to do a proper mix down. if you arent launching a buttload of clips for your production or if you use the arrangement view for your production, it might be a bit of overkill. the knobs on the right are great for sends and things like that, but if that is your main use for the unit, you can probably get a cheaper/usb powered controller for that. let us know if you get it! =D |
