hardware synths

Opinions wanted. I am selling my motif xs 6, the sounds are wasted on me, though the keybed is quite nice. So I'm re-looking at non romplers.

I have owned a virus KC and liked it, but sold a few years ago (to buy the xs6 ). And I've always wanted a novation supernova II.

So, on the option block for me currently:

a novation ultranova
an access virus ti 61
DSI Poly Evolver 61

I have a myriad of soft synths.(live/logic/reason/komplete7/omnisphere) I _COULD_ just get a controller and probably be ~happy~. But I don't want to be ~happy~, I want to be utterly fucking ecstatic.

There is a fairly vast $$ disparity here as well, ~$3k for the virus, ~$700 for the UN, and ~$2300 for the PEK. Or like $99 for an akai 49 key IF I went the controller route, I could spend more $$ upgraded mic pre's and more plugins. (Like a new UA firewire box)....But I have pre's in my presonus...

The most important part here is, what do I write, and I don't know that I have a label for it. Ambient electronica with a distinct influence from late '80s'/early '90's alternative, and people like Imogen Heap, with some Hoodoo Gurus and Concrete Blonde thrown in for laughs.

If any of you own one of the above, or have an opinion, do please share

Fair amount of recording, both DI of guitar and bass, plus sends, and mostly female vocals.

I believe I'm dropping the DSI option, so it's up to the virus and the UN. The biggest downfall of the UN that I can see currently is the monotimbrality of it, and that is really a fairly big 'meh' for me.

A Virus is never bad choice in my opinion. I've never owned one myself, but my friend owns a number of them and swears by them. They are so rich and full of texture AND they are pretty versatile as well. They also maintain their value for the most part so it's never a bad call.

With that being said, the VST route is never a bad call as well. My question is, why do you have to upgrade your mic pre's? Are you doing a lot of recording?
