My First Beat... anyone have advice!?
Posted on: 26.02.2011 by Wilbur Siress
So this Is the first sound clip I have ever produced in my life. I have been mixing for a little over 4 months and I have decided to try some production as well. I know this is absolutely awful but I made this without knowing what the hell I was doing I'm using Reason and don't even know what 95% of the buttons do I'm pretty lost.

So here it is

Sorry its a link I'm not sure how to upload a sound cloud song on this community .

I'm looking for helpful tips, tricks and advice on where I can get a better understanding of what everything in reason will do so the sounds in my head I can produce in reason. Maybe the best way is just to continue what I'm doing and just experiment with everything in the program.

I could really use some advice from people who produce in reason tho or even in general.

Thank you all ahead of time for the help tho. This community has provided me with non stop good information.

aside from the fact that the word "sync" (:eek is not really appropriate to describe a song's dynamics, where is this rhythm "off-sync"? off-beat notes are still in time, i just don't hear any timing problem. it almost sounds swing-ish in the opening seconds as it picks up, but all the instruments and resolves drop at the right time. i really don't mean to be rude and this isn't only directed at you, Mork, but we should all make sure that we know what we mean before critiquing somebody's work . . .

as for the OP, nice work, man. obviously much more to do, but this is a good start to what could become a real catchy track. are you going to use that bass-line throughout the rest of the track or are you going to start something new and come back to this one?

edit: by the way Konig, to embed a soundcloud link, there's actually a button for it among the tools in the advanced message box (on the opposite end of "bold").

Yeah I know an offbeat instrument can sound good. But in this particular case, I personally find it not good at all. The sounds are good. But I would Rather see this synced together.

Like the weird synth troughout the song. If That was placed each 8 bars it would sound great. But now it just feels out of place thats all.

And trust me browski I know what im talking about.

Thanks man yeah I was believeing the same thing with the wobble syth.

Get a more crisp snare, the one you have is really wet and makes the entire lower on the spectrum. On the other hand try throwing another voice into your wobble syth that is set to a higher pitch to give the sound some more character.

I'm new, so I may be completely wrong, but that's what comes to mind.

Better than my first beat ^.^

Cool thanks for responding. I don't have a keyboard yet. I plan on getting one tho I feel like I could be much more rhythmic with a keyboard even tho I dont know hot to play piano. Any advice on syncing my sounds? I feel like I just need to learn the basics of how reason works before I go crazy with it.

First of all, Your sounds sound pretty good. But its just not synced together. Thats what your problem is here Do you have a midi keyboard? Cause if not Reason won't be a good program for you. But if you do, just search all posible reason tutorials on youtube. I bet there thousands of them. I learned alot trough tutorials so I believe it will do the same thing for you
