Help with Maschine 1.6/Komplete Elements
Posted on: 29.03.2011 by Johnsie Kingrea
I've had Maschine since the beginning but have only started to scratch the surface of what it can do. Now that 1.6 and Komplete Elements are out I feel like it's just blown up another 10 levels. I'm a noob to Komplete and NI's instruments. I loaded up Kontakt and was stoked to hear their acoustic drum kits. I have it loaded as a plug in but whenever I hit a pad it only plays a preset drum loop. I'm looking to play the drum kit samples individually. Can anyone help

The drums you're trying to play are mapped as loops and one-shots within Kontakt. Loops are mapped to a particular range of keys, and the one shots to others. The blue keys on Kontakt's on-screen keyboard will show you which keys are active. If you hit SHIFT + PAD MODE on your Maschine controller, you'll be able to play any of the loops and one shots, though you may have to move up or down an octave to be able to play them all. Hope that helps.

I believe that the Kontakt player takes .rex files (not 100% sure on that one) so they're pretty much bound to be loops. For single shots I believe Battery is the one you want to use. Again, I'm not sure, mainly because I've never owned any of NI's production software, but if it's anything like the videos that I've watched make it look, battery is one shots.
