push every button possible on your software, find out what they do.

once you figure out what your style is and what you like then work with it.

make sure you keep every single idea no matter how bad, and finish every song no matter how bad. you will never know what you might turn out with. ableton is great for that. i have so many midi clips and bad songs on my HDD.

also head over to Artists House Music i have seen almost all of their videos. loads of information on everything music related.

oh and soundcloud is your friend haha
Awesome advice! And thanks for that link to artistshousemusic.com haven't seen that site before. I'm getting into DJing with live and right now I'm deciding on what kind of setup to go with. Ableton is so flexible that any set up can be as complex or as simple as you want and I don't know where to start! lol

just get a midi controller. 49 keys or more for production, eventually you will figure out what you use most and you will end up getting a mixer that works.

i know i plan on building an arduino controller in the future with loads of knobs... don't have 4k for a xone 4d and want something smaller...

i started with cheap edirol speakers and a cme uf-5 midi controller. i gotta say had the controller 6 years and they are still the best i have ever used. before that it was just random programs that made sound.

one thing to note is when you crop audio/record audio files in live the files do get converted to wav and go into your project folder. personally i don't crop files when djing, but i do/can record vinyls and other instruments. just make sure you have all your files on you

Ok thanks. Because coming from Traktor, I was annoyed that I had to batch convert all my Mp3's into WAVs just for Ableton lol. I'm glad I don't have to now.

7 Years? Your hard work is finally paying off. I'm getting into producing and djing on ableton live right now. Any advice for a newbie?

no... all of my tracks are in 320kb mp3. i keep the .asd files in the same folder as the songs this way all i have to do is drop the song and its ready to go. i just loop different sections to launch. seems fine, but then again i am using a quad core laptop

and thanks it only took me 7 years

Congrats on the track making it to Beatport! Btw I'm getting into Ableton DJing and I was wondering if it's a "Must" to convert Mp3's into WAV files? I read somewhere mp3's cause problems when used with Live because live needs to convert the audio. Has that been fixed or is it still like that?
