Logic to Ableton.
Logic to Ableton. Posted on: 14.04.2011 by Robin Pagen So I've been dabbling in both Ableton and Logic Pro and I've found it easier for me to write in Ableton, I know, crazy. But I love going through all the samples in Logic.I've tried to export any clips from Logic as midi files but they don't work in ableton. The only way I can is to export the clip as an audio file but then I really can't edit it in ableton. Any tips here? | |

Anglea Kasi 25.04.2011 | I'm not a logic user.. but I've been dealing with similar issues lately. My main DAW is Digital Performer.. but I upgraded Reason + Record only just recently.. so I had to go use that.. but I hated not having my effects and the rest of my virtual instrument library.. so I started believeing about work flows.. with projects.. where I might move between programs.. or whatever. I found that.. if I thought about it like "ok, for now I'm not going to worry about mixing" then I had like ultimate flexibility.. So.. you can export audio as stems.. and midi, and whatever... it's only once you get to the mixing part of the process that you have to worry about commitments.. or that's what I found.. So.. I guess if I were to translate this to a Live / Logic work flow.. if you can't control the virtual instruments in Logic via Live.. then use whatever Live has thats vaguely in the same ball park as you want to work with.. So.. lets say you like live because you can try out lots of ideas.. have a freedom of trying them out in different ways.. in the session view.. and you can even treat it like a performance.. believeing of all of this as a purely "compositional tool." But.. you probably don't want to do anything except work with MIDI.. no synth parameter automations, or effects sends or even effects... because that's not going to get out of Ableton easily. Another potential solution is if you have the channel you are using as the sound source.. go into another channel.. you process the other channel.. and then.. you bring the midi into Logic.. you audition some stuff.. and then export the audio.. channel by channel.. and put them back into Live in such a way that your automation, and what have you, are now automating whatever you created in logic. None of these are perfection solutions.. Oh, another option.. is something like Kore.. particularly if you do all the mixing via MIDI.. then you can move Kore and MIDI back and forth.. |
Robin Pagen 19.04.2011 | Ahh, I'll look into this rewiring thing. Thank you!! |
Ashirumatic DJ 19.04.2011 | There is a way to route audio into Ableton from Logic, use Soundflower if you are on a Mac or Virtual Audio Cable on PC (Except you would not be using Logic). However you could always write in Ableton, then when you wanted to use Logic, Start ableton up as a ReWire client with Logic. Easily done! Just start Logic, then Start Ableton and you're done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ixj-DiaB1s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0qA1wA51YA A couple videos on how to do all this. Hope that helps |
Brent Dierken 19.04.2011 | Ableton can definitely import midi so is this a problem with Logic? random midi import tutorial -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CCGHw4HTkA Oh, export as Midi Type 1 so it splits the channels. |
