My First D&B Tune. Posted on: 19.11.2011 by Jude Duchscher http://soundcloud.com/mario-villella/arcanum-masteredLet me know what ya believe, I need to do some more mixing work and for some reason my Sine/Sub bass isn't coming through good enough without me having to drown out other stuff in the mix by turning it up. | |

Jude Duchscher 19.11.2011 | Thanks for the feedback guys I'm definitely going to be adding another breakdown>build>DNB drop. Also going to talk to a dude I know about maybe mixing/mastering it for me. |
Micaela Scherbert 19.11.2011 | The Noob producer in me says this: I agree with the above comment, after the halfbeat (drumstep) breakdown, the main synth should fall out and you should have another breakdown/build up to drum and bass. I didn't notice the sub bass (either being there or being weak), but that's a problem i have with the sound systems I use to listen. have you filtered out your sub sonics (cutoff everything below 20 hz)? that's helped me clean up the low end. drums sound awesome. much better than what i'm working on currently. good punchy bass, good wide snare, nice feel to the hihats. The DJ in me says: I love drum and bass and drumstep, it's what i've been spinning for hte past 10 months (of 6 years DJing). but if a track is less than 4 minutes, i struggle to even put it into a crate in serato. most of the pro DNB/Drumstep produced stuff i have is 5-6 minutes with a handful of 4 and 7 minute tracks. |
Charline Dunch 19.11.2011 | as you said yourself, the sound/mix isnt there yet. its pretty good though. i really liked the drums and the main anthem/pads. also the buildups are solid. well i dont like that the main anthem/lead is just going through the song beginning to end. you should drop it at some points and bring it back in with the main buildups or after short breaks. also i would like to hear a second synth playing either on top at some points (if that aint too crowded) or playing in exchange for the main one for some more variation. (could use some percussion here and there too) the overall composition is weak. the track is way too short and doesn't offer much variation. after the drumstep part i'd like another breakdown (possibly longer) and then have it going back to dnb. just check the structure of professional dnb tracks and try to somewhat replicate that. if you add that and take the advice above into consideration you have a great track. oh and i recommend having someone else than yourself do the mixdown/mastering because of the fresh ears thing. usually comes out better. |
Marguerite Salsedo 19.11.2011 | The main part of the tune being the way it is, it's more Drumstep than it is Drum & Bass... as far as your issue with the bass goes, I'd try lowering the volume of other stuff rather than jacking the volume of the bass (I don't know much about production but I know that is usually a better way of solving that kind of issue). Overall you've got some good sounds going in it man, nice work so far. |
